(This is the first of occasional dispatches from Jonathan Hall, a Columbus State University student who is competing in the Summer Olympic Games in London. Hall, who won the 2010 NCAA national championship in air rifle, will compete in the 10-meter air rifle competition as part of the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team. Jamie Gray, assistant coach of CSU's Rifle Team, is also on the 20-member U.S. shooting team, competing in the 10-meter air rifle event, as well as the 50-meter three-position competition. Gray competed in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. This is Hall's first Olympics.)
Hello from Denmark,
The U.S. Olympic Shooting team arrived here in Denmark EARLY yesterday (6 a.m. Denmark time Saturday) morning. We are training here in Denmark at the Denmark Olympic Range and staying at their Olympic Training Center (similar to ours out in Colorado).
Being that we are all a little jet lagged and still trying to adapt to that, I didn't expect to shoot very well (Sunday). But despite my expectations, I shot very well today! I won our practice final with a 104.5 (out of a possible 109.0, very hard points to make up).
Our team will continue to shoot here in Denmark until the 26th, when we will all travel over to London for in-processing. Then we will be checked into the Olympic village and receive our Olympic gear and, yes, our made-in-China clothing.
More to come!
