As Yellow Ribbon School, Columbus State Offers New Benefit for Veterans

Yellow Ribbon SchoolCOLUMBUS, Ga. — Qualifying military veterans have a new advantage if they’re interested in attending Columbus State University, thanks to CSU’s new status as a Yellow Ribbon School.

At Columbus State, the program will benefit veterans eligible for 100 percent Post-9/11 G.I. Bill education benefits who would be charged out-of-state tuition. Georgia, like many states, requires public universities to charge higher out-of-state tuition to residents who haven’t lived in the state for a year.

Effective this fall, those Chapter 33 veterans will now be eligible to receive $500 a semester from Columbus State toward covering out-of-state tuition, and the VA will match that amount, for a total of $1,000 in the fall or spring. The Yellow Ribbon Program award is available on a first-come basis, limited to 15 Chapter 33 students each semester.

Columbus State, with one of the largest student populations of veterans among Georgia universities, has a full-time Veterans Affairs office in University Hall. For more information on the Yellow Ribbon Program or assistance applying for other VA education benefits, visit the office at University Hall 026, one floor below Enrollment Management, during regular business hours on weekdays, call 706-507-8866 or email
