AUG. 13 — State of the University Address/Welcome Back
Columbus State University President Tim Mescon will deliver his State of the University address at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 13 at CSU’s University Hall. The address is the highlight of the Welcome Back celebration for the university’s faculty and staff.

 

AUG. 16 — Nature Navigators: Raptor Release
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will host a Raptor Release from 11 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 16 at the center, 3535 S. Lumpkin Road. The program takes a look at raptors native to the area. Admission: $5 per person. There is no charge for infants. For more information, http://oxbow.ColumbusState.edu/ExploringNature.php.

Classes for Columbus State’s fall 2014 semester begin today.

 

AUG. 23 — Exploring Nature Day
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will host Exploring Nature Day from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23 at the center, 3535 S. Lumpkin Road. This event includes a live reptile show, a guided hike through Oxbow's nature trails, a scavenger hunt, and interactive lessons from the center’s Bird Identification Station, Mammal Station and Invertebrate Station. AUG. 23 — Pet First Aid/CPR Course
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will host a Pet First Aid/CPR Course from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Aug. 23 at the center, 3535 S. Lumpkin Road. This course will cover CPR, rescue breathing, choking, poisoning, wounds, and other pet emergencies during this Pet First Aid/CPR course. Fee: $50 per person. AUG. 23 — Astronomy Night
CSU’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center offers Astronomy Night starting with planetarium time at 8 p.m., followed by observing time at 9 p.m. using a wide array of telescopes at the center, 701 Front Ave. Free.

 

AUG. 25 — Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum
CSU’s Leadership Institute at the Cunningham Center is sponsoring the Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum Aug. 25-26 at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center. Keynote speakers for the event’s opening night is Mark Cuban, business magnate, investor, best-selling author and owner of the Dallas Mavericks (2011 NBA World Champions). The event opens with dinner at 6:30 p.m., with Cuban’s remarks slated for 9 p.m. Registration for the full two-day conference is $429 for individuals. Tables of eight are $3,400. AUG. 26 — Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum
CSU’s Leadership Institute at the Cunningham Center is sponsoring the Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum Aug. 25-26 at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center. Second-day events start with a 7:15 a.m. breakfast. Speakers scheduled for the day are Sheryl Sandberg, chief operating officer for Facebook; Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx; Scott Harrison, founder-CEO of charity: water, a nonprofit organization bringing clean, safe drinking water to people in developing nations; retired U.S. Navy Vice Admiral John R. Ryan, president and CEO of the Center for Creative Leadership, a nonprofit organization focusing on leadership education and research; author Marcus Buckingham, a leading expert on employee productivity; and Ronald A. Heifetz, senior lecturer and co-founder of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
