Cody’s Run to Include Runners Trained Through `Couch to 5K'
COLUMBUS, Ga. – Cody's Run, a set of 5K and 1-mile runs offered by Columbus State University, starts on main campus at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 23, but those who register by Friday, April 15 receive a T-shirt and reduced entry fee.
Early registration fees are $20; $15 for ages 14 and younger, as well as CSU faculty and staff; and $10 for CSU students.
After Friday, the fees increase by $5.
The event will include about 50 new runners who have trained through a “Couch to 5K” program at CSU. Lori Coffield, director of fitness at CSU’s new Student Recreation Center, oversaw the eight-week, twice-a-week workout program that started slow and easy in February, gradually building up participants’ endurance to run the 5K race through neighborhoods near CSU’s main campus.
The runs start near the Lumpkin Center and Student Recreation Center and finish at the campus clock tower.
The 5K run is open to walkers. The event also includes free face painting for children before and after the 1-mile run.
Register online at http://www.active.com/5k-race/columbus-ga/codys-run-2011. Entry forms also are available in the Student Recreation Center.

Cody’s Run is one of several events planned as part of CSU’s Sustainability Week, which promotes health and wellness as well as environmental awareness in conjunction with Earth Day on April 22.
