AUG. 1 — Comic Book Show at Space Science Center
Columbus State University’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center hosts a Columbus Comic Book Show 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1 at the center, 701 Front Ave. The event will involve toys, comics, games and food vendors, plus costumed Star Wars and super heroes will be on hand for photos. AUG. 2 and 9 — Astronomy Night Series at Callaway Gardens
Columbus State’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center hosts Astronomy Night programs of stargazing and planet viewing 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2 and 9 at Callaway Gardens’ Overlook Pavilion near Pine Mountain. AUG. 3-4 — Orientation for New Students at West Point
Columbus State will hold an orientation 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday for new students taking CSU classes this fall primarily at the West Point site. The orientation takes place in the CSU Classroom Building, 405 West 8th St. Tuesday’s session involves check-in from 5-6 p.m. and informational presentations from 6-8 p.m. The following evening involves academic advising and course registration. AUG. 9-10 — Main Campus Orientation for Freshman Commuter Students

Columbus State will hold an orientation Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 9-10 for traditional freshmen entering CSU this fall as commuter students. The program follows an 8:30-10 a.m. check-in period in the University Hall gallery. Course advisement and registration on the second day will conclude the orientation. AUG. 12-13 — Move-In Day on Main and RiverPark Campuses
Columbus State’s Residence Life office continues an annual tradition with Move-In Day activities starting 9 a.m. on both Thursday and Friday, Aug. 12-13. Faculty, staff and alumni will help introduce new students to the university by helping then move their belongings into their CSU apartment units. Main campus activity will take place Thursday at Courtyard I off University Avenue. RiverPark students will move in to their apartments Friday in Columbus Hall and Broadway Crossing in downtown Columbus. Food, drinks and T-shirts are provided to the volunteers. AUG. 13 — Kids to College Pep Rally
Columbus State University will host more than 1,000 fifth-graders for its annual “Kids to College” pep rally 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13 in the Lumpkin Center. The event is designed to generate enthusiasm for college preparation as it kicks off the College of Education and Health Professions’  program in its eighth year for fifth-graders from Fort Benning and Harris, Talbot and Muscogee county schools. Columbus State officials will speak to the gathering and activities will involve reptiles from Oxbow Meadows and CSU cheerleaders and athletes. AUG. 13 — Speaker Series Event for Business and Sales Professionals

Columbus State University’s Cunningham Sales Institute features real estate executive Jack B. Key III in its next Distinguished Speakers Series program 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13 at the Cunningham Center, 3100 Gentian Boulevard. Key is a partner in Coldwell Banker/Kennon, Parker, Duncan and Key Realty, which recently was named, for the ninth straight year, the top producing Coldwell Banker office in the Southern Region of 16 states and 1,500-plus offices. The program includes lunch and costs $39 per person or $129 for four programs of the quarterly series, which targets business and sales professionals. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Aug, 11.
