Columbus State Hosts Regional Science Olympiad Competition
COLUMBUS, Ga - Fourteen teams from 11 middle schools in the region will meet at Columbus State University on Saturday, Feb. 28 for the Science Olympiad Regional Tournament, a hands-on competition that aims to stimulate student interest in science.
“The Science Olympiad Regional Tournament excites middle school children about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) with investigations, team problem solving, and opportunities to apply scientific principles,” said Tim Howard, director for CSU’s Math and Science Learning Center. “By hosting this event, Columbus State has distinguished itself as the regional provider of STEM support and education.”
Columbus State faculty, students and community volunteers will supervise the day’s 23 events that run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on CSU’s main campus. An awards ceremony will follow the competition at 4 p.m. in the Davidson Student Center. Top scoring teams will earn a chance to compete in the State Science Olympiad Tournament in March.
