COLUMBUS, Ga. — Columbus State’s Student Recreation Center will host an open house that will allow CSU faculty, staff, their spouses and CSU alumni to use the center for free from Monday-Thursday, Dec. 12-15.

Student Recreation Center, Columbus State University

Rick Cravens, director of campus recreation, said this event will give CSU faculty, staff, and alumni an opportunity to experience the center’s state-of-the-art fitness areas, movement classes, 36-foot climbing wall and racquetball courts as well as an aquatic center that encompasses a five-lane, 25-yard lap pool, “lazy river,” therapy pool and sauna.

“The Student Recreation Center has a fun, young and vibrant feel to it,” he said. “It’s different from other fitness facilities in the area.”

The center opened for student, faculty and staff use during spring semester 2011, and membership was recently extended to alumni in response to requests. Alumni can sign up for a three-, six-, or twelve-month membership that costs $120, $210 or $420, respectively. Faculty, staff and their spouses are able to pay for memberships at identical rates, or through payroll deduction at $35 a month.

To participate in the open house, faculty, staff and their spouses must present their CSU ID. Alumni must show a photo ID. The center will be open from 6:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Dec. 12-15. The aquatic center will be open from 7-9 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 5-8 p.m., and the climbing wall will be available from 5-8 p.m.

Group fitness classes will be held at 12:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. A special Zumba Party will be offered at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13.
