Columbus State Student Geologists Chapter Selected as Nation’s Best

COLUMBUS, Ga. – Columbus State University’s student chapter of the American Institute of Professional Geologists has been selected as the organization’s best chapter in the nation.

The students received a plaque and a check for $500. Additionally, two Columbus State students will be representatives at the AIPG’s national convention Sept. 13-16 in Prescott, Ariz. This all-expenses-paid trip also includes a $200 stipend.

The head of the Georgia AIPG chapter, as well as the society’s national president, made the presentation at a recent meeting of the student chapter.

“This was a great surprise for the students,” said Bill Frazier, chair of Columbus State’s Department of Earth and Space Sciences. “I was sworn to secrecy. They knew nothing until the head of Georgia's AIPG chapter as well as the society's national president walked into the kid's meeting. Obviously, we are very happy for and proud of our students.”

The full set of last year's officers for the chapter was:

Vice President - Ridge Smenner
