Columbus State University to Recognize Largest Graduation Class Ever at Spring Commencement Ceremonies
Columbus State University will honor more than 930 graduates at its spring 2019 commencement ceremonies this weekend. The graduating class is the largest in CSU's 60-year history, prompting the addition of a fourth graduation ceremony for the first year ever.
Graduates will be recognized according to their college with ceremonies being held at the following times:
" Thursday, May 16, 6:30 p.m. - Graduate Hooding Ceremony, University Hall
" Friday, May 17, 3:00 p.m. -- College of Education and Health Professions - Nursing, Kinesiology, Health Science, and Health & PE
" Friday, May 17, 6:00 p.m. -- College of Education and Health Professions - Teaching, Leadership, and Counseling
" Saturday, May 18, 10:00 a.m. -- College of the Arts, Turner College of Business
" Saturday, May 18, 2:00 p.m. -- College of Letters and Science
The four commencement ceremonies will be in the Frank G. Lumpkin Jr. Center and live streamed at https://graduation.columbusstate.edu/.
At the College of Arts and Turner College of Business ceremony on Saturday morning, an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters will be presented to John W. Walden, Senior Vice President of Investments at Stifel Nicolaus& Company, Inc. A champion of CSU for more than 30 years, Walden has served as director of the CSU Athletic Fund Board and provided philanthropic support that benefited the state-of-the-art John W. Walden Tennis Facility and Walden Soccer Complex. He and his family have also established the Walden Athletic Scholarship Endowment and John and Sally Walden Endowment for Opera.
Below are a few notes for those planning to attend graduation:
" To improve the safety and security of our graduates and their families, CSU Police will be conducting bag checks. Graduates, families, and faculty are encouraged to arrive early and not to bring large bags.
" Balloons, noise makers, signs, and confetti are prohibited from the Lumpkin Center.
" There will be loud noises at the conclusion of each ceremony. These are planned, please do not be alarmed.
