Columbus State Volleyball Set for Final Regular Season Weekend
Columbus, Ga. – After another thrilling come from behind road win, the Columbus State University volleyball team (12-14, 7-9) returns home for the final weekend of the regular season. The Lady Cougars will host UNC Pembroke (16-19, 3-13) for Senior Night at 7:00 p.m. on Friday inside the Lumpkin Center. On Saturday, CSU will take on Francis Marion (9-17, 5-11) at 2:00 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center.
Columbus State extended its season-long winning streak to four in a row on October 10 with a 3-1 win over Francis Marion in Florence, S.C. Katie Poole led the Lady Cougars with 16 kills, while Kylie Beaubien and Mary McCarty each hit over .333 with double-digit kills. Ivana Kazic registered a double-double with 48 assists and 11 digs. Caytlin Merritt led the CSU backline with 20 digs.
The Lady Cougars' streak came to a grinding halt on October 11 with a 3-2 loss to the Braves in Pembroke. CSU held a 2-1 lead in a tight fourth set before UNC Pembroke notched the final two points to take the frame 26-24. Columbus State fell behind early in set five, dropping it 15-8. Merritt and Erika Gelzinyte each had 22 digs for a CSU defense that totaled 98.
The Lady Cougars overcame a two-set deficit on Wednesday night at Montevallo to sweep the season series with the Falcons.
Five different CSU attackers tallied double-digit kills. Megan Frame led the way with 15, while Beaubien, Gelzinyte, McCarty and Poole each had a dozen.
Columbus State will honor its first volleyball senior class since the program's rebirth on Friday night. Katie Poole of Rowlett, Texas and Megan Scharnett of Champaign, Ill. will suit up for their final regular season home match at the Lumpkin Center.
The Peach Belt Conference tournament begins next week. The top four teams in the regular season standings will host the quarterfinal round on Tuesday, November 11.

Inside UNC Pembroke
The Braves went 13-6 in nonconference play but and have won two matches in a row.
Ninth-place UNCP is two games back of eighth-place Francis Marion and has been eliminated from PBC tournament play by virtue of two losses to the Patriots.
Nicole Matthews leads the Peach Belt with 463 kills, 101 more than second-place.
Inside Francis Marion
The Patriots have clinched a spot in the PBC tournament and can finish as high as sixth after this weekend.
Francis Marion has won three of its last five matches.
Alexzandra Reed ranks second in the Peach Belt in kills (362) and kills per set (3.93).
