Cougar Kickoff Launches CSU Students’ School Year

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Before fall classes get into full swing, CSU students will end the summer break with water wars, picnics, beach and foam parties, and more. These activities are part of the Aug. 13-21 Cougar Kickoff celebration that will take place before and after the first day of classes on Monday, Aug. 17.

The series, geared to students and open to faculty and staff, kicks off with a luau from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 at the Courtyard I clubhouse.

CSU buses will transport students between the RiverPark and main campuses and to the off-campus sites for the events, the remainder of which include:

• Friday, Aug. 14: A Downtown Variety event, 6-8 p.m. in the RiverPark parking garage fifth level will involve games, food, a DJ and more.

• Sunday, Aug. 16: A 6-8 p.m. Scavenger Hunt in the Davidson Student Center lounge will follow the inauguration of CSU President Tim Mescon and 2009 Freshman Convocation at 3 p.m. in RiverCenter’s Bill Heard Theatre. CSU students also will participate in the Day of Service and University Picnic at the campus Intramural Field on Saturday, Aug. 15.

• Monday, Aug. 17: CSU Game Night, from 2-5 p.m. will feature food and games on the intramural field, followed by Skate Night from 6-9 p.m. at the Jam Skate Center, 817 Milgen Road, Columbus.

• Tuesday, Aug. 18: A Wet and Wild Ice Cream Social will involve free ice cream, inflatable games, a dunk tank, water tag and more from 4-7 p.m. at the campus Intramural Field.

• Wednesday, Aug. 19: The traditional main campus’ Welcome Back Picnic will involve food, games, giveaways and student organization booths from noon-1:30 p.m. at the clock tower, where a 7-10 p.m. Meet the Greeks event will allow students to get to know the CSU Greek student organizations.

• Thursday, Aug. 20: The RiverPark campus Welcome Back Picnic, similar to the previous day’s main campus event, will run 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on the open space next to RiverCenter. Later, on main campus, a 3-5 p.m. Water Wars event and a 7-10 p.m. Foam Party will be staged at the clock tower.

• Friday, Aug. 21: A Beach Bash at Callaway Gardens will close Cougar Kickoff. The 2-7 p.m. event at Robin Lake Beach will include live music.
