CSU And The Columbus Ballet Team Up

Columbus State University and The Columbus Ballet are announcing a new partnership that will give the ballet company a new home in the CSU Rankin Arts Center in Uptown Columbus.

The agreement establishes The Columbus Ballet as the Dance Artists in Residence at the Rankin Arts Center. In addition, The Columbus Ballet will bring its students to the arts center for classes where the ballet can use newly renovated facilities to provide professional-quality training in classical ballet for the serious dance student.

'Partnering with CSU will open the door for greater outreach throughout the region,' Marie Hirsch, artistic director of The Columbus Ballet. 'We will also be able to bring internationally known dancers to participate in workshops for the community.'

The mission statements of both The Columbus Ballet and the Rankin Arts Center are similar in that they strive for the highest educational opportunities and cultural growth for the region. Directors of both organizations said a partnership allows each to better accomplish their goals.

'I've been here 17 years and seen how the arts have grown in this area,' Hirsh said. 'The talent is here in Columbus and the passion and desire for classical ballet has grown since The Columbus Ballet was founded in 1995. There is great potential for classical ballet to continue to grow.'

The Columbus Ballet will continue to provide professional grade ballet productions in Columbus. Classical ballet classes will start in the fall at the Rankin Arts Center, on the second floor of CSU's Rankin building at the corner of 10th Street and Broadway.
