CSU Happenings for April 3-10, 2012

APRIL 3 – Piano Studio Recital
The CSU Schwob School of Music hosts a piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. This will be an evening of piano repertoire performed by the students of CSU professor Alex Kobrin. Admission is free. APRIL 3 – CSU Tennis
Columbus State’s women’s and men’s tennis teams hosts Montevallo Sunday, April 1 at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center. The women’s match begins at noon; with the men to follow at 2 p.m. Admission is free.

APRIL 3 – Interactive Concert for Individuals with Autism
The CSU Schwob School of Music hosts a Music and Autism concert at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 in Room 1714 of the RiverCenter. Students will share with autistic children the joys and fun of music. APRIL 4 – Kobrin does Brahms
The CSU Schwob School of Music hosts a piano concert by Alex Kobrin at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Kobrin, CSU’s L. Rexford Whiddon Distinguished Chair in Piano, dedicates a performance to Johannes Brahms on the anniversary of the composer’s death. Admission is free. APRIL 4 – CSU Baseball
Columbus State’s baseball squad continues its 2012 season against Albany State at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 at Ragsdale Field. APRIL 5 – Baritone Recital

APRIL 5 – CSU Jazz Band’s Swing Bash
CSU’s Schwob School of Music’s Jazz Band hosts Swing Bash at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Activities begin at 6:45 p.m. in the RiverCenter lobby, where professional swing dancers perform. Refreshments will be served and everyone is encouraged to wear the "jazzy" dress reminiscent of the 1930s-1950s. At 7:30 p.m., the CSU Jazz Band will perform a program featuring swing favorites in the Big Band style of Glenn Miller, such as In The Mood and Tuxedo Junction. Admission is free. APRIL 6 – Todd Boss talk and reading
The Carson McCullers Center will host a Georgia Poetry Circuit event at 4 p.m. Friday, April 6 at the center, 1519 Stark Ave. The event features Todd Boss, a critically acclaimed Minnesota poet whose collections include Yellowrocket and the forthcoming Pitch. Boss will give a talk at 4 p.m. with a reading to follow at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

 

APRIL 8 – Second Sunday: Native Plant Sale
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center holds its Second Sunday: Native Plant Sale from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, April 8 at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road. Alicia Garcia, botanical outreach coordinator, will speak about why native plants are so important to our local ecology. Cost is free.

APRIL 9 – Faculty Chamber Concert
CSU’s Schwob School of Music hosts a Faculty Chamber Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 9 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Faculty artists Alexander Kobrin, Sergiu Schwartz, Susan Tomkiewicz, Lisa Oberlander, Jason Eklund and Ron Wirt team up for two of the best-loved works in the repertoire: Mozart's Quintet for Piano and Winds and the Brahms Trio for Piano, Violin, and Horn. Columbus State’s women’s golf team competes in the first round of the Peach Belt Conference Championship at 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 9 at Callaway Gardens’ Lakeview Course in Pine Mountain.

APRIL 10 – CSU Men’s Golf at Peach Belt Championship
Columbus State’s men’s golf team competes in the third and final round of the Peach Belt Conference Championship at 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 9 at Callaway Gardens’ Mountainview Course in Pine Mountain.
