CSU Happenings for Dec. 12-18

DEC. 12 - Lego Robotic Competition
Ten teams from around the Chattahoochee Valley will compete in a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) League event from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Columbus State University’s Cunningham Center. Kids will compete in this Lego-based research and robotics competition co-sponsored by CSU’s TSYS School of Computer Science and Chick-fil-A. The event is free and open to the public. DEC. 12 – Reptile Encounter at Oxbow Meadows
CSU will stage a “Reptile Encounter at Oxbow Meadows” 1 p.m. Saturday at the Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road., Columbus. CSU reptile expert Jason Clark will present the program, which will feature Georgia’s native reptiles, venomous and non-venomous snakes, alligators and tortoises. Clark will show how to identify venomous snakes and avoid being bitten. Admission is $5 per person. Seating is limited. For more information, call 706-687-4090.

DEC. 12 - Reading by Selena Anderson
Columbus State’s Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians will present a reading by Selena Anderson, CSU’s 2009 Marguerite and Lamar Smith Writing Fellow, 4 p.m. Saturday at the Columbus Public Library on Macon Road. A reception at the Smith-McCullers House, 1519 Stark Ave., will follow the reading. Both programs are free and open to the public. The CSU men’s basketball squad will host Dillard University, 4 p.m. Saturday in the Lumpkin Center. DEC. 14-15 - West Point New Student Orientation, Registration
Columbus State will hold an orientation 6-8 p.m.. Monday for new students who will attend classes at CSU’s West Point site. The program takes place in the CSU classroom building at 405 West 8th St., West Point. Check-in is 5 p.m. The orientation’s cost is $30 per student and $20 per guest. On Tuesday, Jan. 15 at the same site, CSU will hold a spring 2010 academic advisement and registration session from 5-8:30 p.m. for new West Point students. For more information, call 706-645-2780.
