CSU Happenings for July 8-31, 2012

July 8 – Honey Extraction at Oxbox Meadows
The Chattahoochee Valley Beekeepers Association will extract honey from beehives at Columbus State University’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 8. Admission is $3 per person, and there's no charge for children under age 3. For more information, call 706-507-8550.

July 14 – Getting Started with Georgia AAS
This workshop, based on the Georgia Adopt-a-Stream manual GettingTo Know Your Watershed, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 14 at Columbus State University’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center. Volunteers will learn about the process of registering a stream, wetland or lake they will monitor. They will also learn how to use maps to assess their watershed and related land use, including the use of watershed survey data forms. The second half of the workshop will be spent at a stream conducting a visual survey and learning how to do a stream cross-section and calculate flow. Oxbow Meadows' role in the Adopt-A-Stream program is made possible in part by a grant from the F. Allen and Louise K. Turner Foundation.   For more information, call 706-507-8550.

July 12-13 – Orientation for Freshmen, RiverPark Campus
Columbus State will hold a two-day overnight fall semester orientation on Tuesday and Wednesday, July 12-13, for accepted students who have been out of high school for less than five years and transferring in less than 30 hours of credit from another institution. Specifically for students planning to live on CSU's RiverPark Campus in Uptown Columbus, this orientation's check-in is 8-9 a.m. in the Grand Lobby of the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. The cost is $106 per student and $50 per accompanying family member or guest.
