CSU Happenings for May 15-24

MAY 15 - Closing Receptions for Student Art Exhibitions
Columbus State’s Department of Art will host a pair of receptions for separate student art exhibitions Friday on CSU’s RiverPark campus in downtown Columbus:

• “Birds,” a Master of Science in Education thesis exhibition of paintings by Eric Todd, 5-7 p.m. in the Carpenters Building, 4 Ninth St.
• “Pardon our Progress,” CSU’s senior art exhibition, 6-8 p.m. in the Corn Center for Visual Arts

MAY 16 - Spring Graduation Ceremonies
Columbus State University’s spring commencement is set for Saturday with a pair of ceremonies in the Lumpkin Center. Graduates of the colleges of business and science will cross the stage in a 10 a.m. program. A 3 p.m. ceremony will involve graduates from University College and the colleges of arts and letters and education.

This spring’s commencement speakers are Maj. Gen. Michael Barbero, the outgoing commanding general of Fort Benning, for the morning ceremony and Susan Herbst, executive vice chancellor for the University System of Georgia in the afternoon. MAY 16 - Astronomy Night at Providence Canyon
CSU’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center will stage an Astronomy Night program of planet viewing and stargazing, 9 p.m. Saturday at Providence Canyon State Park near Lumpkin, Ga. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 706-649-1470.

MAY 18 - Summer Term to Open with May-Session Classes

MAY 23-24 - Weekend Bird Walks at Oxbow Meadows
The Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center is hosting weekend “Bird Walks” from 8-9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 23-24 at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road. The program is free and designed for adults and children ages 10 and older. Binoculars and bird field guides are provided. Reservations are required. Ongoing - Registration for Kids’ Summer Camps
Registration is open for kids’ summer campus at Columbus State University, which open May 26 (Athletic Camps: soccer and tennis), June 1 (Active8) and June 8 (Space Camps at CSU’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center).
