Jan. 27 ALUMNI GALA ART EXHIBIT AND AUCTION
The Columbus State University Alumni Association will hold its annual Gala Art Exhibit and Auction on Friday in the Cunningham Center. The event will begin with a preview of the art at 7 p.m., followed by the auction at 8 p.m. The show will include art in all media and price ranges provided by Marlin Art, Inc. of Deer Park, N.Y. Admission is $5 and includes a door prize drawing, wine and cheese, and hors d'oeurves. Proceeds benefit the Alumni Association's scholarship fund. Jan. 27 POETRY READING BY ALBERT GOLDBARTH
Columbus State University will host a poetry reading by renowned poet Albert Goldbarth at 7:30 p.m. Friday in CSUs International House at 6 Clearview Circle. Goldbarth has authored more than 20 collections of poetry including Troubled Lovers in History and serves as distinguished professor of humanities in the English department at Wichita State University. The program is sponsored by CSUs Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians as a Georgia Poetry Circuit event. Admission is free and open to the public. Jan. 30 - EXHIBITION BY FOLK ARTIST BUTCH ANTHONY OPENS
Columbus State Universitys Department of Art will host an exhibition by Butch Anthony titled Museum of Wonder, from Monday, Jan. 30 through March 9 in the Fine Arts Hall gallery. A gallery reception featuring Anthony, a folk artist from Seale, Ala., is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7.
Anthony has worked increasingly on site-specific installations, including a recent collaboration with the University of Texas to develop housing designs for Yaqui single mothers and their children living in the Sonora Desert of northern Mexico. The project won a prestigious Cooper-Hewitt 2005 National Design Award. During this semester, Anthony will work with CSU art students in professor Trish Ramseys sculpture class on a permanent site specific installation at Oxbow Meadows.
Anthonys exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. Fine Arts Hall gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. For more information, call (706) 568-2047.
Jan. 31 FACULTY ARTIST RECITAL: VOCALIST MICHELLE DEBRUYN

FEB 1 NCAA BASKETBALL: CSU HOSTS USC UPSTATE
The Columbus State University mens and womens basketball squads will host the University of South Carolina Upstate for a doubleheader Wednesday, Feb. 1 in the Lumpkin Center. Tip-off times are 5:30 p.m. (women) and 7:30 p.m. (men). General admission is $5, $3 for students (age 5 through college) and free for military personnel and CSU students, faculty and staff, with appropriate ID.
