Friday is Deadline for CSU Awards Nominations

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Time is running out to nominate worthy individuals or organizations for two of Columbus State University’s most prestigious annual awards, honoring two former presidents.

Friday, Feb. 19, at 5 p.m. is the deadline for nominations for the Frank D. Brown Achievement and Leadership Excellence Award and the Thomas Y. Whitley Distinguished Alumnus Award, both offered by CSU's Alumni Association.

The Whitley Award nominee must be a Columbus College or Columbus State graduate, but any individual or organization that brings distinction to or provides outstanding service to CSU is eligible to be nominated for the Brown Award.

The CSU Alumni Association established the Frank D. Brown Achievement and Leadership Excellence Award honoring CSU’s third president in 2008, the year he retired, to recognize an individual or organization that exemplifies his leadership skills and ideals.

The Thomas Y. Whitley Distinguished Alumnus Award, named after CSU's founding president, has been presented each year since 1980 to the CSU or Columbus College degree-holder who has most lived up to the high standards set by the award's namesake, who died in 2001.

The awards, presented only if achievement or service merits them, should be announced at CSU’s annual President’s Recognition Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22 in the Cunningham Center.

Criteria and nomination forms for each award can be found at http://alumni.colstate.edu. Questions and requests for more information should be directed to the Alumni Office at telephone number 706-568-2280.
