Home Baseball Opener Saturday; Newcomer Excels

Columbus, GA - Newcomer Drew Candlin has quickly made a name for himself in the Cougars' first games of the 2006 baseball season. The junior transfer from Newnan has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for the first weekend of the season.

Candlin hit .462 in a three-game set at West Alabama, slugging a double in each game and driving in three runs in each of the final two games of the series. He added a home run in a three-hit game in the second contest, a 10-5 CSU win, and then capped the series with with two hits in a 6-5 CSU loss. He scored four runs and posted a .923 slugging percentage in the three-game set.

CSU returns to action on Wednesday at Valdosta State and will play the 2006 home opener on Saturday at Ragsdale Field, beginning a three-game set with Anderson College at 1 p.m.
