Miss CSU Scholarship Pageant Marks 10th Anniversary

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Miss CSU scholarship pageant marks its 10th anniversary this fall, and several past winners are expected to participate in the event at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 in Fine Arts Hall auditorium on CSU's main campus.

Past winners, including Jessica Scott and Kara Shehane Lee, will join reigning Miss CSU Catheryn Shaw, doubling as emcee, in reprising their talent competition performances for the program.

Contestants this year will compete for a $1,000 first-prize scholarship provided by the CSU Alumni Association and will go on to compete for the Miss Georgia title.

The state-level competition, now staged at RiverCenter for the Performing Arts, raises the CSU winner’s profile, said pageant chair Sommer Bundy Gowdy.

“Miss CSU now is truly Columbus’ ambassador to the competition’s statewide gathering of participants, officials and followers,” Gowdy said.

The pageant’s tests of poise and public speaking skill also provide a career-preparation benefit for the participants, said Gowdy, the 2003 winner, who completed her business administration degree in 2005 and currently is an assistant branch manager for Columbus Bank and Trust. “I can say I wouldn’t have gotten as far as I have without the experience.”

Tickets are $10 or $13 for admission and a commemorative program.
