No. 2 Columbus State Set for No. 17 Clayton State Saturday
Columbus, Ga. – After reaching the highest ranking in program history, the second-ranked Columbus State University women's soccer team will host No. 17 Clayton State on Saturday at the Walden Soccer Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Columbus State eliminated Clayton State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with a 1-0 victory at Wingate University on November 15, 2013. Chelsea Person scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 10th minute for the Lady Cougars.
Columbus State and Clayton State tied for the Peach Belt Conference regular season championship in 2013.
The last time the two teams met in Columbus, Ashley Miller scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to give the Lady Cougars a 3-2 win.
Saturday's match will mark the third time the Lady Cougars have played against a ranked opponent this season, defeating then No. 9 Rollins 1-0 and playing then No. 2 West Florida to 1-1 before a weather cancellation.
Columbus State has recorded three consecutive shutouts, with the last goal against it coming late in the match at Young Harris on October 4.
