Nominations Sought for Townsend Award; Deadline is Feb. 2
The Black Applause Banquet Committee of Columbus State University is seeking nominations for the Dr. John Townsend Achievement Award. The deadline is 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2. For more information or nomination forms, contact Ray Lakes at (706) 562-1654 between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Named in honor of Dr. John Townsend, the first African-American student to enroll at CSU, the award recognizes a person, organization, or group from Columbus, Phenix City, Fort Benning or surrounding areas that has made a positive and noteworthy contribution to the community, or achieved distinction for outstanding professional or personal service. In addition, the nominee must also exemplify high moral character and be held in high esteem by the local community.
The award will be presented at the 21st Black Applause Banquet, an annual part of the CSU Black History Month celebration. The banquet will be held on Friday, Feb. 27 at the Columbus Georgia Convention &Trade Center. Dinner at 7 p.m. will follow a 6:30 p.m. reception.
