Columbus State seeks nominees for annual university, community diversity awards

November 15, 2022

iNCLUSION STARTS WITH i

Columbus State University invites the community to join with students, faculty and staff in nominating diversity, equity and inclusion advocates for its 2023 Legacy Awards. These awards, presented annually at CSU’s Legacy Banquet, honor a commitment to fostering belonging on campus and in the community.

Eight different Legacy Award categories specifically honor CSU alumni, area organizations and businesses, faith leaders, LGBTQ students and allies, university employees, and women who help enhance DEIB efforts at Columbus State and in the Chattahoochee Valley.

Nominations can be submitted online by Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, and will be reviewed by a panel of members of the university’s Diversity Programs and Services Committee. Honorees will be notified prior to the formal awards ceremony at Columbus State’s Legacy Celebration Dinner on Wednesday, March 29. The dinner is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in CSU’s Lumpkin Center.

The Legacy Celebration Dinner precedes the university’s annual Diversity Forum, which evolved from the CSU’s first Diversity Conference in 2012. Since then, the forum program has hosted presentations and dialogue around a broad range of issues reflecting the diverse lives of many throughout the Columbus region—such as race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, education, nationality, poverty, and privilege. The forum attracts hundreds of local social service, nonprofit, business and religious leaders and diversity champions.

The 2023 Diversity Forum begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 30 in the Cunningham Center on CSU’s Main Campus.
