Banking on CSU Classic Set for Oct. 10

September 28, 2005

The Second Annual Banking on CSU Columbus Day Golf Classic will be held Oct. 10 at Green Island Country Club. The event, held for the first time in 2004, was a huge success and has grown in only its second year of existence.

Members of the winning foursomes will each receive a brand-new set of Taylor Made irons, while players on the second and third place teams also will receive new clubs to add to their bags, thanks to generous support from six area banking institutions sponsoring the tournament. All proceeds from the event, which is planned for Columbus Day each year, will benefit CSU Athletic and Alumni scholarship funds.

The format will be a four-man best-ball tournament, with an entry fee of $500 per foursome. The fee includes lunch and a post-tournament social hour. Hole- in-one prizes include a Cadillac Escalade, trips to Acapulco and Germany, and 36 dozen golf balls. This year, two waves of teams will make up the event, with one wave beginning at 8 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m. Limited slots remain available in each wave and can be purchased by contacting Doug Branson at 568-2447 or Brian Padgett at 569-3032. The entry deadline is Oct. 5. All golfers need to have a certified handicap at time of registration.

Organizers have enlisted sponsorships from area banks with the expectation of turning the Banking on CSU Columbus Day Golf Classic into one of the areas most premier tournaments, offering some of the best prizes. Sponsors include CB&T, TIC Federal Credit Union, SunTrust, Wachovia, Regions Bank and Colonial Bank.
