Biology, Mathematics Major to Study Stem Cells at Harvard this Summer

Michael Rohly, a double major in mathematics and biology at Columbus State University,
will reside at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute this summer to study signaling pathways
linked to kidney disease.Rohly’s research experience is being funded by the National Institute of Health’s STEP-UP program , which provides education grants to high school and undergraduate students to work and conduct summer research at any institution, hospital or university within the United States. Program participants come from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research on a national basis.
His Columbus State University mentors include professors Brian Schwartz and John Barone from CSU’s Department of Biology and Guihong Fan and Carlos Almada from CSU’s Department of Mathematics.
