Chapter of National Chemistry Honor Society Installed at CSU

The Department of Chemistry at Columbus State University welcomed Dr. Greg Boyce, the Executive Recorder of Gamma Sigma Epsilon to formally install the Mu Epsilon Chapter of Gamma Sigma Epsilon National Chemistry Honor Society. Dr. Greg Boyce traveled from Florida Gulf Coast University to activate the chapter and initiate the founding members.

A ceremony was held earlier this month to initiate Drs. Wade Holley and Kerri Taylor as the faculty co-advisors, which was followed by the induction of 14 new members into the National Chemistry Honor Society. These Columbus State University students were recognized for demonstrating exceptional ability and interest in the field of chemistry. The student organization, faculty co-advisors, and Department also celebrated the four students holding officer positions in the 2018-2019 academic year. The students who were inducted are as follows:

Gamma Sigma Epsilon is a national chemistry honor society founded in 1919 at Davidson College in North Carolina. The original fraternity was created to promote academic excellence and undergraduate research scholarship in chemistry. In 1931, the fraternity went co-ed and became an honor society. Today there are over seventy active Gamma Sigma Epsilon chapters throughout the United States. The Society is governed by a National Executive Council of elected officers and meets in biennial conventions for the purpose of governance, fellowship, and scientific exchange.

Active membership in the chapter requires that students complete a minimum of 16 credit hours in chemistry with a minimum grade point average of 3.3 in all chemistry courses and at least a 3.3 overall grade point average.
