November 10, 2021

Columbus State University’s Dr. Alicia Bryan has been selected to participate in the University System of Georgia’s 2021-22 Executive Leadership Institute class. The 34 faculty and 25 staff members chosen from USG institutions represent leaders who are ready for advanced and cabinet-level leadership positions in the near future. Presidents at each USG institution nominate participants to represent their colleges or universities.
Bryan currently serves as interim associate provost and associate vice president for faculty affairs and academic innovation in the university’s Provost’s Office.
“I am honored to accept Dr. Markwood’s nomination for the Executive Leadership Institute,” Bryan said. “His investment in my leadership potential, along with support from CSU’s provost, Dr. Deborah Bordelon, speaks to the culture they wish to establish at CSU. I am looking forward to the training, mentorship, and self-discovery that will take place over the coming months to enhance my leadership skills.”
Bryan is a three-time graduate of The University of Alabama, where she received a bachelor of arts degree in psychology with a minor in English and pre-occupational Therapy; a master’s of arts degree in exercise science with an emphasis in adult fitness; and a doctorate in kinesiology with a minor in biochemistry and educational research statistics. Prior to her appointment as interim associate provost, she served as an associate professor and internship coordinator for the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences. Bryan is also involved in various institutional committees as well as numerous community and professional organizations.
Launched in 2009, the Executive Leadership Institute is a 120-hour development program led by leading leadership experts. Participants partake in various components including group learning sessions, job shadowing and cross mentoring.
“USG strongly supports investing in the development and retention of our future USG leaders, and these class members represent the best of faculty and staff across the state who will lead us into the future,” Vice Chancellor for Leadership & Institutional Development Stuart Rayfield said. “We congratulate them for this honor, and look forward to working with them as they continue to evolve and grow in their leadership development.”
Eligibility requirements for the program include a current title of vice president,
chair, dean (or equivalent) and higher, with demonstrated potential based on the USG leadership competencies
