APRIL 13 - Scholastic Honors Convocation to Recognize Top Faculty, Students
Columbus State University will host its annual Scholastic Honors Convocation, from
2-4 p.m. Friday, April 13 in the Fine Arts Hall auditorium. The event will recognize
CSU’s outstanding faculty and students for 2006-07. The program is free. For more

APRIL 13 – Student Piano, Violin Recitals
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present student recitals by violinist Whitney Millican
and pianist Shelley Millican starting 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 13 in RiverCenter’s

APRIL 14 – Visitation Day to Serve Prospective Students
The CSU Admissions Office will hold a Visitation Day for high school seniors and
their parents on Saturday. The event will begin in the Lumpkin Center with registration
starting at 9:30 a.m. The program allows prospective students to tour campus, meet
current CSU students and speak with professors in their area of interest. For more

APRIL 14 – CSU to Host ‘Graduate School Open House’
CSU will showcase its master’s degree programs in a “Graduate School Open House”
on Saturday, April 14 in the Cunningham Center for Leadership Development. The event
opens with registration and a continental breakfast from 10-10:30 a.m., followed by
individual presentations on CSU’s graduate degree programs. A main-campus tour starting

The CSU women’s softball squad will face Augusta State at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday,

The CSU baseball squad will face USC Aiken at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14,

APRIL 14 - CSU Wind Band Alumni Reunion Concert
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will stage a CSU Wind Band Alumni Reunion Concert at
7 p.m. Saturday, April 14 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Retired conductor Hal Gibson
and present conductor Robert Rumbelow will share the stage with both the CSU Wind
Symphony the CSU Wind Orchestra, as well as an “Alumni Band” comprised of former Schwob

APRIL 15 – Student Trombone, Horn Recitals
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present student recitals by trombonists William
Allford and James Wolf at 4 p.m. and Michael Thomas on horn at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in

APRIL 16 – Film Screening to Remember Rwanda Genocide
CSU’s Center for International Education will screen the PBS Frontline documentary
“Ghosts of Rwanda” at 7 p.m. Monday in the International House at 6 Clearview Circle.
This two-hour program is free and open to the public, as April marks the 13th anniversary
of the Rwanda genocide that claimed about 800,000 lives. For more information, call

APRIL 16 – International Artist to Premiere Original Works
Bulgarian-raised and Paris-based classical guitarist Atanas Ourkouzounov will perform
original works at 7:30 p.m. Monday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. The event is sponsored
by CSU’s Schwob School of Music and the Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians,
which is hosting Ourkouzounov as a Carson McCullers Resident Composer in Guitar. For

APRIL 17 – Seminar: ‘Technical Security in an Educational Environment’
CSU’s Center for Quality Teaching and Learning will host a seminar, “Technical Security
in an Educational Environment,” 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday in the Cunningham Center. The

APRIL 17-19 – CSU Libraries to Hold Annual Book Sale
As part of National Library Week, CSU Libraries will hold its annual book sale April
17-19 in the main lobby of the Schwob Library. Prices will be $1 for most hardcover
books and 25 cents for most paperback books. Sale hours are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday,
2-7 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday. For more information, call 706-568-2042.
APRIL 17 – Columbus Author to Give Talk
Author-historian Louise Barfield Hammett will discuss her book “I Must Sing! The
Era with Carrie Fall Benson,” at noon, Tuesday on the main floor in CSU’s Schwob Library.
The program is free and hosted by CSU Libraries in conjunction with National Library

APRIL 17 – Student Art Exhibition Reception
CSU’s Department of Art will host a reception for its annual Student Art Exhibition
from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the university’s RiverPark campus in downtown campus. The
program, in the Norman Shannon and Emmy Lou P. Illges Gallery in the Corn Center for
the Visual Arts at 6 West 10th Street, will feature scholarship presentations to current
students and incoming freshmen. The students’ works are on display in the Illges gallery.

APRIL 17 – CSU Musicians to Premiere Composition by Brian Cherney
The CSU Percussion Ensemble and Wind Symphony will join to perform a piece composed
for them by Canadian composer Brian Cherney, a Carson McCullers Resident Composer
in Percussion. The concert, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall, will
feature Assistant Professor Paul Vaillancourt as soloist. The event is sponsored CSU’s
Schwob School of Music and the Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians.

APRIL 18 - Security Awareness Week Expo at Clock Tower
CSU’s Computer Information and Networking Services department and the TSYS Department
of Computer Science will stage a Security Awareness Week exposition at the Clock Tower
from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday. The event will feature security software CDs, free
food and other giveaways, and a demonstration of the Columbus Consolidated Government’s
Incident Command Vehicle. Also, participants can view and vote on entries for CSU’s

APRIL 18 - Security Awareness Week: Expert Presentation and Clock Tower Expo
A computer science colloquium at noon Wednesday will feature JArthur Grubbs, Jr.,
associate director of risk and compliance assessment at TSYS. He will present “A Real-World
Approach to Incident Management and Incident Response” in the Center for Commerce
and Technology room 208. A CSU graduate , Grubbs directly manages security for Visa-Mastercard,
bankcard and e-commerce transaction processing environments across North America and
Europe and in Japan. Meanwhile, an event at the clock tower will feature a display
of the Columbus Consolidated Government’s Incident Command Vehicle, and security
software CDs and other giveaways from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The programs are free and
open to the public and part of Security Awareness Week, presented by CSU’s Computer
Information and Networking Services and the TSYS Department of Computer Science. For

APRIL 19 – Composer Brian Cherney to Give Lecture
Brian Cherney, regarded as one of Canada’s most influential composers, will a give
a talk titled “Literary Influences in My Music,” at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19.
The event is sponsored by CSU’s Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians,
which is hosting Cherney as a Carson McCullers Resident Composer in Percussion. Cherney
has taught for 30-plus years at Montreal’s McGill University, while performing throughout

APRIL 19 – Leading Economist to Present Forecast for Georgia, Nation
Donald Ratajczak, nationally respected as a leading economic forecaster, will give
a talk on the economic outlook for both Georgia and the nation at 1 p.m. Thursday,
April 19 at CSU’s Theatre on the Park, at the corner of 10th Street and Bay Avenue
in downtown Columbus. Ratajczak is a University System of Georgia Board of Regents
professor emeritus of economics and directs the Economic Forecasting Center at Georgia
State. He has been featured on CNN and quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Business
Week and The New York Times, among national publications. Sponsored by the D. Abbott
Turner College of Business, this program free and open to the public. Seating is limited.

APRIL 19 - FBI Computer Crime Investigator to Give Talk on Identity Theft
FBI Special Agent Terence Fisher, a computer crime investigator and supervisor of
the FBI’s Atlanta-based Georgia Cyber Squad operation, will give a presentation on
identity theft at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19 in the Davidson Student Center auditorium.
The program is free and open to the public, and is the keynote presentation for Security
Awareness Week at CSU, sponsored by Computer Information and Networking Services and

In addition to FBI cyber specialist Terence Fisher’s keynote presentation, CSU’s
Security Awareness Week programs in the Davidson Center on Thursday, April 19 will
be vendor booths from 11 a.m.-2 p,m. in the Davidson Center, Information security
logo student contests entry viewing and voting and a display of the Columbus Consolidated
Government’s Incident Command Vehicle from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. between Fine Arts Hall and
the Center for Commerce and Technology. Security Awareness Week is presented by CINS
