APRIL 27 – PIANO STUDIO RECITALS
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present a Piano Studio Recital at 7:30 p.m. Friday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Admission is free. For more information, call 706-649-7287.

APRIL 27-28 – NCAA BASEBALL: CSU TO HOST USC-UPSTATE
The CSU baseball squad will face USC Upstate at 6 p.m. Friday, April 27 and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at Ragsdale Field. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and free with CSU or Cougar Club member ID. For more information, call 706-568-2204 or visit http://www.csucougars.com.

APRIL 28 – CSU STUDENT COLLOQUIUM TO SHOWCASE BEST OF RESEARCH, CREATIVE PROJECTS
Columbus State University will stage its annual CSU Student Colloquium from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday on the second and third floors of the Center for Commerce and Technology. Presentations throughout the day will feature the best of CSU-student research and creative projects over the past year. The event is free and open to the public and sponsored by the CSU Honors Program. For more information, call 706-565-3677.

APRIL 28 – RECITAL BY AWARD-WINNING VOCALIST MICHAEL SUMUEL
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present a student recital by baritone Michael Sumuel at 3 p.m. Saturday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Sumuel won the Music Teachers National Association Young Artists Collegiate Voice Competition on March 25 in Toronto. He is the first CSU student to capture first place in any category of this national-level competition. Admission is free. For more information, call 706-649-7287.

MAY 1 – EARLY REGISTRATION, FEE PAYMENT DEADLINE FOR MAY-SESSION CLASSES
Tuesday is the deadline for early registration and fee payments for the May session of the 2007 summer term at Columbus State University. The session will run May 14-June 1. For more information, call 706-568-2237 or go to http://registrar.colstate.edu.

MAY 1 – PRIORITY APPLICATION DEADLINES FOR FALL 2007 ADMISSION, FINANCIAL AID

MAY 3 – HISTORY SERIES: FAMOUS MURDERS IN COLUMBUS
CSU’s interpretive history series “Red Clay, White Water, and Blues” will conclude with a forum on famous murders in Columbus at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 3 in the Columbus public library.

British investigative journalist David Rose, who has written for the Observer and Vanity Fair, will discuss the serial “stocking strangler” murders in 1977-78 — the subject of his new book “Violation: Justice, Race and Serial Murder in the Deep South.” He will explore issues of racial justice in the arrest and trial of Carlton Gary. Also, local historian Billy Winn will discuss lynchings and racial violence in the early 20th century and speak on the controversial murder of Dr. Thomas Brewer. Winn also will guide a Saturday, May 5 field trip to Columbus’ famous murder sites. A bus will leave the Columbus library parking lot at 10 a.m. and return at noon.
