APRIL 6 - CSU Students to Perform ‘A Visit with Don Quixote’
Columbus State University’s Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians will stage “A Visit with Don Quixote” at 7 p.m. Friday at the Smith-McCullers House, 1519 Stark Ave., Columbus. CSU-student performers will read in Spanish from literature on Quixote and from Spain’s Golden Age of Poetry. The event, also featuring live music and images, is co-sponsored by the McCullers center and CSU Assistant Professor Jose Barroso-Castro. Admission is free and the public is invited. APRIL 7 - Classical Guitarist Randell Avers to Perform
American-born classical guitarist Randell Avers will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in RiverCenter Legacy Hall. An eight-time prizewinner in international competitions, Avers lives in Denmark and has performed on five continents. General admission is free. APRIL 7 - Astronomy Night at Providence Canyon State Park

APRIL 8 - Oxbow Meadows to Present Easter-Themed Second Sunday
CSU’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will present “Egg-Citing Animal Trivia Games” as its next Second Sunday Series program at 2 p.m. Sunday. Guests will be challenged to identify the eggs of various animals, including owls, snakes, and turtles; match bird eggs to their nests; and learn about birds during a scavenger hunt. Participants also can construct a coated cardboard bluebird house to take home for the backyard. Admission is $2 per person and free for kids under age 3. APRIL 10 – Media Opportunity with Children’s Author Carmen Deedy
Children’s author and storyteller Carmen Deedy, CSU’s 2007 Hunter Lecture Series speaker, will be available to the media from 10:45-11:45 a.m. Tuesday in the Davidson Student Center auditorium. This period will follow Deedy’s 9:45-10:45 a.m. workshop in the auditorium for CSU faculty and students. Deedy will discuss her background and craft, and provide insight on “the power of storytelling in the classroom.” The media also are welcome to cover this program. APRIL 10 – Author Carmen Deedy to Deliver Hunter Lecture
CSU will present a lecture by nationally known author and storyteller Carmen Deedy at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Fine Arts Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. Deedy is a regular contributor to National Public Radio's “Weekend All Things Considered” and “Latino USA.” After the lecture, Deedy will autograph copies of her books purchased beforehand. Locally, proceeds from sales of Deedy’s books through Barnes & Noble Booksellers are supporting Chispa, CSU’s organization for Hispanic and Latino students. Deedy’s appearance is part of CSU’s Hunter Lecture Series, made possible by a gift from Madge Hunter, in memory of her late husband, James W. Hunter. APRIL 12 - President’s Recognition Banquet: Top Alumnus Honor to Troy Woods
CSU will stage its annual President’s Recognition Banquet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Cunningham Center for Leadership Development. The event serves to recognize university supporters and includes the presentation of the Thomas Y. Whitley Distinguished Alumnus Award, the highest honor for a CSU graduate. APRIL 12 – Guitar Studio Recital to Feature World Premiere
