Dec. 22 CSU TO CLOSE FOR HOLIDAYS
Columbus State University will close for the holidays beginning noon Friday and through
Monday, Jan. 1. The university will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Dec. 29-30 NCAA BASKETBALL: CSU HOLIDAY CLASSIC
The CSU Holiday Classic will feature eight mens and womens basketball games in the
Lumpkin Center on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 29-30. The schedule is:
Friday Georgia College and State vs. Tuskegee , 1 p.m.
CSU vs. Tusculum , 3 p.m.
North Carolina Central vs. North Georgia , 5:30 p.m.
CSU vs. St. Augustines 7:30 p.m.
Saturday Georgia College and State vs. Tusculum 1 p.m.
CSU vs. Tuskegee 3 p.m.
St. Augustines vs. North Georgia 5:30 p.m.
CSU vs. NC Central 7:30 p.m.

Jan. 2-31 CSU TO ACCEPT TOWNSEND AWARD NOMINATIONS
Columbus State University will accept nominations from the public beginning Tuesday,
Jan. 2 for the Dr. John Townsend Achievement Award, named in honor of Townsend as
the first African-American student to enroll at CSU. The award recognizes a person,
organization or group from Columbus, Phenix City, Fort Benning, or surrounding areas
that has made a positive and noteworthy contribution to the community, or achieved
distinction for outstanding professional or personal service. In addition to meeting
the above criteria, the nominee must also exemplify high moral character and be
held in high esteem by the local community.
Submission deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 31. The award will be presented at CSUs annual Black Applause Banquet on Feb. 23 at CSUs Cunningham Center. Jan. 3 NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
Columbus State University will stage an orientation on Wednesday, Jan 3 for all new
students entering CSU in spring 2007. Check in is at 8 a.m. on the Davidson Student
Center second floor. The program will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Davidson
auditorium, followed by advising and class registration. Spring classes will begin
Monday, Jan. 8.
Orientation fees with advance registration are $35 per student and $15 per guest. On-site registration will cost an additional $25. For additional information, visit http://orientation.colstate.edu or call the orientation hotline at 706-568-2180.
Jan. 4 - LATE REGISTRATION AND FEE PAYMENT DEADLINE
Thursday, Jan. 4 is the final day for late registration, and the fee payment deadline
for late registration, for spring semester classes at CSU. For more information,

Jan. 4 HISTORY SERIES TO CONTINUE WITH THE RIVER
Local experts will present The River, a forum about the Chattahoochee River, at 7
p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4 at the Columbus Museum. The panel will be comprised of John
Turner, a local businessman who advocates breaching two dams and returning the Chattahoochee
River to its natural state; Bill Edwards, of Chattahoochee RiverWatch Inc.; and Billy
Turner, director of Columbus Water Works. The event is free and the fourth in a series
of eight programs titled Red Clay, White Water and Blues, organized by CSU history
