Feb. 17 AFRICAN NIGHT TO FEATURE TRADITIONAL FOOD, FASHION, MUSIC AND MORE
Columbus State Universitys African Students Organization will stage African Night at 7 p.m. Friday in the Davidson Centers second-floor lounge. CSU students from Africa will demonstrate cultural traditions through music, dance, fashion, food and more. The event is part of African Week at CSU and the university's Black History Month observance. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call 706-568-2273.

FEB. 18 REGIONAL STUDENTS TO COMPETE IN SCIENCE OLYMPIAD
Middle and high school science students from the greater Columbus area and Georgia at large will compete in a regional, Division B Science Olympiad competition Saturday at Columbus State University. The event opens with registration at 7:30 a.m. in Arnold 104. Competition displays and judging will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at various campus locations. The day will conclude with a 4 p.m. awards ceremony in the Lumpkin Center.

Among the 24 presentations are Mystery Architecture , Food Chemistry and Balloon Race . Winning teams will advance to a March 25 state finals at Augusta State University. The Science Olympiad 2006 national finals will be May 19-20 at Indiana University. FEB. 18-19 GUITAR SYMPOSIUM FOR ALL AGES, SKILL LEVELS
Columbus State Universitys Schwob School of Music will stage its 7th annual Guitar Symposium on Saturday and Sunday at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts. Designed for classical guitarists of all levels and ages, events will include lectures, masterclasses, artist recitals and a competition for elementary through college levels. Columbus State University will stage Homecoming 2006 with a Mardi Gras-related theme Cougar Gras: Unmask Your Pride. The following activities are scheduled including programs open to the public :

• MONDAY Student Banner Competition: Banners displayed in Lumpkin Center, judging on Friday; Faculty & Staff Door/Office Decorating Competition; and the Mr. & Mrs. Courtyard Pageant, 7 p.m. Davidson auditorium .
• TUESDAY Intramural All-Star Basketball Game, 7 p.m. Woodruff Gym .
• WEDNESDAY Dodgeball Tournament, 12:30 p.m. Woodruff Gym.; Find The Cougar Competition, 6 p.m. Lumpkin Center; Movie Night, Coach Carter, 8 p.m. Davidson auditorium.

FEB. 21 PROFESSORS TO DISCUSS RITE OF PASSAGE
CSU Libraries will present a series of Rite of Passage lectures, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Simon Schwob Memorial Library . Presentations, individually, by professors Maurice Shalishali , Julie Ballenger and Joseph McCallus will showcase their expertise relevant to their recent promotions to the rank of full professor. FEB. 21-22 CSU TO HOST NATIONAL TEACHER OF THE YEAR, PUBLIC LECTURE WEDNESDAY
Columbus State University will host Jason Kamras, the 2005 National Teacher of the Year, on Tuesday and Wednesday for activities at CSU and off campus. Kamras is a mathematics teacher at John Philip Sousa Middle School in Washington, D.C.

On Tuesday, Kamras will tour CSUs College of Education and participate in a series of programs with the Muscogee County School District, Fort Benning Department of Defense Schools and Phi Delta Kappa honor society. On Wednesday, Kamras will attend a breakfast with CSU student teachers and give a brief presentation before a public lecture at 10 a.m. in the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center. Kamras will conclude the day and his visit to Columbus with lunch and a presentation to the Downtown Rotary Club. For more information, call 706-568-2212.

FEB. 24 BLACK APPLAUSE BANQUET TO FEATURE TOWNSEND AWARD TO TAX COMMISSIONER LULA HUFF
Columbus State University will hold its 23rd annual Black Applause Banquet on Friday, Feb. 24 in CSUs Cunningham Center. A 6:30 p.m. reception will be followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The event will feature recognitions of top local high school and CSU students and the presentation of the Dr. John Townsend Achievement Award to Muscogee County Tax Commissioner Lula Huff, in honor of Townsend, the first African-American student to enroll at CSU. The keynote speaker will be Richard Holmes, a CSU graduate and Georgia Powers senior vice president of metro Atlanta region and diversity/corporate relations.
