FEB. 9 - NCAA TENNIS: CSU TO HOST USC UPSTATE

FEB. 9 STUDENT VOICE RECITAL

FEB. 10 PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS INVITED TO VISITATION DAY
Enrollment Services at Columbus State University will hold a Visitation Day for high school students and their parents from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The program begins in the Lumpkin Center and will give prospective students the opportunity to tour campus, meet current CSU students and speak with professors in their area of interest. FEB. 10 - SPACE SCIENCE CENTER ASTRONOMY NIGHT AT PROVIDENCE CANYON
CSUs Coca-Cola Space Science Center will host Astronomy Night at 7 p.m. Saturday at Providence Canyon State Park. Space science center staff will direct an evening of star- gazing and planet viewing. FEB. 10 CSU TO HOST CONCERT BY THE ST. LOUIS BRASS
CSUs Schwob School of Music will host a performance by the St. Louis Brass Quintet at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in RiverCenters Legacy Hall. General admission is free. The quintet is noted for injecting humor in their performances, which feature a wide range of works for brass from contemporary to Baroque and Renaissance music transcribed for modern instruments. FEB. 11 OXBOW MEADOWS SECOND SUNDAY: CARING FOR TREES
Caring for Trees is the topic for the next Second Sunday Series program, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11 at CSUs Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center. Steve Smith, community forester with the Georgia Forestry Commission, will give tree planting and pruning tips, identify which trees are suitable for our area and cover basic tree identification during a walk near the nature center. FEB. 11 - PREMIER SERIES TO FEATURE ORGANIST STEFAN ENGELS
Organist Stefan Engels will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday in RiverCenters Legacy Hall as part of the CSU Premier Series hosted by CSUs Schwob School of Music. Engels is professor of organ at one of Europes most prestigious and oldest musical institutions, the Hochschule fr Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in Leipzig, Germany. He will perform Concerto in C Major by Bach and Partita Retrospettiva by Sigfrid Karg-Elert on CSUs internationally acclaimed Jordan Organ. Reserved seating is $20 per ticket. FEB. 11 CSU TO STAGE ANNUAL GOSPEL EXTRAVAGANZA
CSU will host its annual Gospel Extravaganza at 4 p.m. Sunday in Fine Arts Hall. Performers will be the CSU Gospel Choir, the Gospel Messengers and Musics Definition, a teen quartet featuring Columbus Devin Johnson, an American Idol group-audition finalist last year who performed in Hollywood after winning preliminary competitions locally and in Chicago. He returned as a solo performer in the current season and auditioned in Birmingham, appearing in a recent American Idol segment. FEB. 16 - CSU PROGRAMS TO SHOWCASE AFRICA
John Wotsuna Khamalwa, Columbus State Universitys visiting professor of African Studies, from Makerere University in Uganda, will lecture on AIDSModern Medicines and Traditional Cures at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, in the Davidson Student Center auditorium. Following the lecture, the public can sample traditional African food and watch a dance and fashion show featuring CSU students from Africa.
