APRIL 11 – U.N. Observer to Address ‘Gender Equality for Women of Africa’
Hellen Wangusa, the Anglican Observer at the United Nations, will speak on “Gender Equality for Women in Africa” at 1 p.m. Friday in CSU’s International House at University Avenue and Clearview Circle. Wangusa formerly coordinated the African Women’s Economic Policy Network and has taught literature on the university level in her home nation, Uganda. APRIL 11 – Scholastic Honors Convocation
The CSU Honors Program will host the annual Scholastic Honors Convocation, from 2-4 p.m. Friday in the University Hall auditorium. The event will recognize CSU’s most outstanding faculty and students for 2007-2008. The program is free. For more information, call 706-568-2033.

APRIL 11 – Horn Recital

APRIL 12 – CSU to Host Genealogical Society Gathering
CSU Libraries will host a meeting of the Muscogee Genealogical Society in the third floor classroom of the Schwob Memorial Library. Columbus Public Library Genealogist-Archivist John Lyles and Dean of CSU Libraries Callie McGinnis will demonstrate four online resources for tracing ancestry. APRIL 12 – ‘PRISM Concert’ to Showcase Student Talent
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present its second annual PRISM Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in RiverCenter’s Bill Heard Theatre. The concert will showcase 225 CSU music students in large instrumental and vocal ensembles, chamber music, and individual performances. Repertoire will range from from classical and jazz to theatrical. Ticket prices are $35, $25 and $10 and half-price with CSU ID. Call the RiverCenter Box Office at 706-256-3612. APRIL 12 – Astronomy Night at Space Science Center

APRIL 13 – Oxbow Meadows Second Sunday: Butterfly Gardens
CSU’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will present “Butterfly Gardens: Planting to Attract Winged Friends” as its next Second Sunday Series program at 2 p.m. Sunday. County extension agent Jennifer Davidson will demonstrate techniques for attracting butterflies to a garden between April and October. Admission is $2 per person and free for ages 3 and under. APRIL 14-18 – CSU to Celebrate National Library Week
CSU Libraries will commemorate National Library Week with daily 4 p.m. contests and prize giveaways for students and a series of free programs at the Schwob Memorial Library:

• Monday: National Library Week kick off with cake and punch served on the veranda, 11 a.m.
• Tuesday: Student poetry read-out, 12:30-1:30 p.m.
• Wednesday: Book donation drive, all day
• Thursday: Columbus Area Library Association LIBRA Award ceremony and tea, 3:30 p.m.
• Thursday: Raffle open to faculty, staff and students, 4:30 p.m.

APRIL 14 – Guitar and Voice Studio Recital

APRIL 15-16 - CSU to Host Board of Regents
The University System of Georgia Board of Regents will hold its monthly meeting at Columbus State University, Tuesday and Wednesday at CSU’s Cunningham Center for Leadership Development, 3100 Gentian Blvd., Columbus. Chancellor Erroll Davis, the Board of Regents and staff members will arrive in Columbus on Tuesday. An opening 1 p.m. session in Blanchard Hall will include remarks by CSU President Frank Brown and Chancellor Davis, and committee meetings will close out the afternoon. The Regents will reconvene Wednesday for a 9 a.m.-noon closing session in Blanchard Hall.

The governor-appointed Board of Regents includes five at-large appointees and one from each of the 13 congressional districts. The board oversees the university system’s 35 colleges and universities with more than 270,000 students and approximately 11,000 faculty and 28,600 staff..

APRIL 15 – Sexual Assault Awareness Week Forum
The CSU Counseling Center will host a forum titled “Rape, Trauma and Treatment” at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Center for Commerce and Technology auditorium. Speakers will be CSU adjunct psychology professor Susan Ulsamer, CSU Counseling Center psychologist Cheryl Yatkso and Kyle Bair, representing the Columbus Rape Crisis Center. The program is free and part of CSU’s observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Week. For more information, call the CSU Counseling Center at 706-568-2233.

APRIL 16-17 - Candidate for CSU President to Visit Campus
The second of seven candidates to become CSU’s next president will appear on campus for a series of interviews and meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.

Faculty, staff, students and off-campus community members will have two opportunities to hear and talk to Dr. Timothy S. Mescon, dean of the Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University. First, he will make a 30-minute presentation and answer questions on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the Center for Commerce and Technology auditorium. Then he will return to the CCT auditorium on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. for a session devoted entirely to questions and answers.

APRIL 16 – String Ensembles to Perform ‘Play by Numbers’
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present “Play by Numbers,” as a farewell concert to retiring professor Manuel Diaz at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. APRIL 17 – ‘Extreme Entrepreneurship’ Event
CSU’s Turner College of Business will host the nationwide Extreme Entrepreneurship collegiate tour from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the Davidson Student Center auditorium. The event will involve nationally recognized keynote speakers, a workshop on how to start a small business, a panel discussion by local entrepreneurs and a networking session. APRIL 17 – Inaugural ‘Celebration of Student Writing’ Exhibition
Advanced student writers will exhibit their work in interactive formats during CSU’s first “Celebration of Student Writing: Beyond Paper,” from noon-1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center’s Founder’s Hall. The theme refers to “student writing fostering the researcher’s habits of mind,” as exhibitors will represent various disciplines, including art, reading education, geography, business, biology. Meanwhile, peer students, who are taking English courses, will review the work in essay form as a class assingment.

The event is free and presented by CSU’s Faculty Center for the Enhancement of Teaching as part of CSU’s 5-year Quality Enhancement Plan titled “Writing the Solution: Steps Toward Developing Competent and Professional Student Writers.” For more information, call the center at 706-507-8231.

APRIL 17 – CSU Wind Orchestra and Wind Ensemble
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present both the CSU Wind Orchestra and CSU Wind Ensemble in concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. The ensembles will perform separately. Conductor Robert Rumbelow will be joined by CSU faculty colleague Joe David and graduate-student conductors. General admission is $5 and free with CSU ID. APRIL 18-19 – NCAA Baseball: CSU to Host Armstrong Atlantic State
The CSU baseball squad will host Armstrong Atlantic State for games at 7 p.m. Friday, April 18 and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, April 19 at Ragsdale Field. APRIL 18 – ‘Music of Radiohead’ Lecture by Resident Composer
Guitarist Carlos Rafael Rivera, a resident composer at CSU, will lecture on “The Music of Radiohead,” at 4 p.m. Friday, April 18 in RiverCenter room 1714. Rivera, a Carson McCullers Resident Composer in Guitar, is internationally known as cross-cultural folk musician. His recordings include performances on feature soundtracks for Lionsgate Films. APRIL 18-20 – Cabaret Theatre
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present “Cabaret Theatre,” a song and dance revue, April 18-20 in RiverCenter’s Studio Theatre. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday. Six CSU voice performance majors will perform a revue of singing and dancing styles from Broadway, Hollywood, blues, and standard cabaret and jazz.
