APRIL 4-5 - Open House-Homecoming Celebration
CSU continues its 50th anniversary celebration on Friday and Saturday with traditional alumni-student homecoming events combined with a campuswide open house to showcase the university’s facilities, talent and intellect. Anticipated inclemented weather conditions have prompted the following, updated schedule:

FRIDAY
• 7-9 p.m. - Free concert by Swingin’ Medallions in Lumpkin Center

SATURDAY
• 8 a.m. - One-mile fun run and 5K road race, Lumpkin Center
• 8 a.m.-1 p.m. - Homecoming student cookoff, Lumpkin Center
• 8 a.m.-5p.m. - Army expo, Richards Hall parking lot
• 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. – CSU Staff Council craft fair, Lumpkin Center
• 9 a.m.-1 p.m. – Homecoming tailgating, Lumpkin Center, parking deck third level
• 9-11 a.m. - Pre-Veterinary Medical Association pet show, Intramural Field
• 9:30-11:30 a.m. – Alumni reunions by college
• 11 a.m. CSU athletes’ reunion, Ragsdale Field
• 11:30 a.m. - “History of CSU” panel discussion, Davidson Student Center auditorium
• 12:30 p.m. – Drop-in alumni lunch, featuring a 50-foot scrambled dog, Cunningham Center
• 12:45-1 p.m. - Fort Benning Silver Wings parachute team demonstration, Ragsdale Field

APRIL 4-6 - CSU Theatre’s ‘Blood Wedding’ Continues
CSU Theatre is staging ‘Blood Wedding” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at CSU Theatre on the Park in downtown Columbus. The play, written by Federico Garcia Lorca in 1932 and set in Spain, explores the intertwining of social status with marriage and features poetry, music and imagery of Spanish culture. The production involves a 22-member cast directed by professor Becky Becker and Spanish-classical guitar accompaniment by Robert Sharpe. Tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, children, active military and CSU alumni and free for students, faculty and staff with CSU ID. APRIL 4 - CSU Jazz Band to Perform Music of Count Basie
The CSU Jazz Band, directed by professor Shirantha Beddage, will perform selections that were part of pianist and bandleader Count Basie’s repertoire at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 4 in RiverCenter’s Studio Theatre. APRIL 4 - Student Piano Recital

APRIL 5 - ‘Spring Bird Walk’ at Oxbow Meadows
CSU’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will host the second of three “Spring Bird Walks” from 9-10 a.m. Saturday. Experienced birders will guide the walk around Oxbow Meadows at 3535 South Lumpkin Road, Columbus. The program also will include discussion on bird watching and effective bird feeders for home. The program is geared to families with children ages seven and up. Participants should arrive by 8:45 a.m. Binoculars and field guides will be provided, or guests can bring their own gear. APRIL 5 - Blood Wedding Companion Lecture and ‘Picnic on the Park’
CSU Spanish language professor Jose Barroco-Castro will give a talk titled “Lorca’s Theory of Duende, Flamenco Culture and Poetics” at 5 p.m. Saturday at CSU Theatre on The Park in downtown Columbus. The program, free and open to the public, is a companion lecture to the CSU Theatre production of Federico Garcia Lorca’s ‘Blood Wedding.” Curtain time that evening is 7:30 p.m., and, guests are welcome to join a “Picnic on the Park” between programs by bringing their own food for dinner and conversation outside the theatre in the upper lobby. Barroso-Castro, a native of Spain, will provide insight on both Spanish culture and the playwright Lorca, who wrote Blood Wedding in 1932, just four years before he was killed in the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. APRIL 5 – Astronomy Night at Providence Canyon
CSU’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center will stage an Astronomy Night program at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Providence Canyon State Park. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call 706-649-1470.

APRIL 6 - Jon Kimura Parker with the CSU Philharmonic
Pianist Jon Kimura Parker will perform with the CSU Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by George del Gobbo, at 4 p.m. Sunday in RiverCenter’s Bill Heard Theatre. Parker is CSU’s Dr. E. Stephen Purdom Distinguished Visiting Artist. The program will include Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1” and Hindemith’s “Symphonic Metamorphoses on a Theme of Weber.” Admission is $10 and half-price for military personnel, senior citizens and CSU faculty, staff and students. APRIL 7 - CIE Film Series: ‘In This World’
CSU’s Center for International Education will screen the film “In This World” at 7 p.m. Monday in the International House. Admission is free. An international prizewinner, the film tells the story of two Afghan cousins who embark on a clandestine odyssey from Pakistan to London. For more information, call 706-565-4036.

APRIL 7-22 – CSU Student Art Exhibition
CSU’s Department of Art will present its annual Student Juried Art Exhibition starting Monday and continuing through May 22 in the Bay Gallery of CSU’s Corn Center for the Visual Arts in downtown Columbus. The exhibition will feature works in various mediums and Columbus Museum Curator Kristin Zohn will serve as juror. A closing reception is set for 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 22. APRIL 9 - NCAA Softball Doubleheader
The CSU softball squad will host Georgia College and State University for games at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday at Lady Cougar Field. APRIL 10 – ‘Choral Collage’ Concert
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present “Choral Collage,” a concert by the CSU Chamber Singers, Women’s Vocal Ensemble, Concert Chorale and Choral Union at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 10 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Conductor Constantina Tsolainou, CSU’s Paul S. and Jean R. Amos faculty chair and director of choral activities, will lead a program including works by Krenek, Pinkham and Rossini. APRIL 11 – U.N. Official to Address ‘Gender Equality for Women of Africa’
Hellen Wangusa, the Anglican Observer at the United Nations, will speak on 'Gender Equality for Women in Africa' at 1 p.m. Friday, April 11 in CSU’s International House at University Avenue and Clearview Circle. Wangusa formerly coordinated the African Women's Economic Policy Network and has taught literature on the university level in her home nation, Uganda. APRIL 11 - Scholastic Honors Convocation to Recognize Top Faculty, Students
The CSU Honors Program will host the annual Scholastic Honors Convocation, from 2-4 p.m. Friday, April 11 in the University Hall auditorium. The event will recognize CSU’s most outstanding faculty and students for 2007-2008. The program is free. For more information, call 706-568-2033.

APRIL 12 – PRISM Concert to Showcase Student Talent
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present its second annual PRISM Concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12 in RiverCenter’s Bill Heard Theatre. The concert will showcase 225 CSU music students in large instrumental and vocal ensemble, chamber music, and solo performance. Repertoire will range from from classical and jazz to theatrical.
