AUG. 13 — Move-In Day on RiverPark Campus

Columbus State’s Residence Life office continues an annual tradition with Move-In Day activities starting 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13. Faculty, staff, students and alumni will help introduce new students to the university by helping then move their belongings into their CSU apartments. RiverPark students will move in to their apartments Friday in Columbus Hall and Broadway Crossing in downtown Columbus. Food, drinks and T-shirts are provided to the volunteers. AUG. 13 — Kids to College Pep Rally
Columbus State University will host more than 1,000 fifth-graders for its annual “Kids to College” pep rally 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 13 in the Lumpkin Center. The event is designed to generate enthusiasm for college preparation as it kicks off the College of Education and Health Professions’ program in its eighth year for fifth-graders from Fort Benning and Harris, Talbot and Muscogee county schools. Columbus State officials will speak to the gathering and activities will involve reptiles from Oxbow Meadows and CSU cheerleaders and athletes. AUG. 13 — Speaker Series Event for Business and Sales Professionals
Columbus State University’s Cunningham Sales Institute features real estate executive Jack B. Key III in its next Distinguished Speakers Series program 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13 at the Cunningham Center, 3100 Gentian Boulevard. Key is a partner in Coldwell Banker/Kennon, Parker, Duncan and Key Realty, which recently was named, for the ninth straight year, the top producing Coldwell Banker office in the Southern Region of 16 states and 1,500-plus offices. The program includes lunch and costs $39 per person or $129 for four programs of the quarterly series, which targets business and sales professionals. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Aug, 11. AUG. 14 — CSU Dance Conservatory Open House
Columbus State’s Continuing Education division holds a CSU Dance Conservatory open house 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14 in the Rankin Arts Center, 1004 Broadway. Participants can purchase apparel, such as dancewear and footwear; learn about Columbus Ballet auditions and performances; and sign up for the conservatory’s fall dance classes, which start Aug. 16. AUG. 14 — Students’ RiverPark Picnic Opens Cougar Kickoff
Columbus State University students will celebrate the forthcoming school year Saturday at Woodruff Park, along the Chattahoochee River on CSU’s RiverPark campus. Activities, from 7-10 p.m., will involve a foam pit, water slide, various games, a music DJ, burgers, hot dogs and more. The event opens Cougar Kickoff, a series of related programs sponsored by Columbus State’s Student Life and Development office. Subsequent Cougar Kickoff events include:

• Movie Night, 9 p.m., Monday in Lumpkin Center features a screening of Invictus
• Main campus Welcome Back Picnic, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday

AUG. 15 — Nature Photography Demonstration at Oxbow Meadows
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center hosts a nature photography demonstration 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15 at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road. Local photographer Bob Hovey will present the program designed for photographers of any age and experience level. Hovey will cover local hotspots for capturing nature photography, plus basic editing techniques including composition, cropping, exposure and color correction. AUG. 16 — Faculty Concert Featuring Saxophonist Amy Griffiths
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music presents a faculty concert featuring saxophonist Amy Griffiths 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 16 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Griffiths will be joined by faculty colleagues Yien Wang on piano and Lisa Oberlander on clarinet. The program includes music by Schumann, Harbison, Demersseman and Albright. Admission is free. AUG. 17 - Visiting Artist Exhibition Opens with Reception, Gallery Talk
Columbus State’s Department of Art presents “Scratching the Surface,” an Aug. 17-Sept. 31 exhibition of photography, sculpture and video by visiting artist Jason Lanka, Lanka, whose work is known for exploring humanity’s place in the natural world, will give a 6:30 p.m. gallery talk as part of a 5:30-7:30 p.m. opening reception Tuesday in the Corn Center’s Illges Gallery, the exhibition site on CSU’s RiverPark campus in downtown Columbus. Admission is free The exhibition is supported by the Illges Foundation and CSU student activity fees.
