AUG. 24 – Legacy Live Concert: Earl Coleman
Baritone Earl Coleman, CSU’s William and Isabelle Curry faculty chair in voice, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Accompanied by pianist Yien Wang, Coleman will perform classical art songs and arias, music of Broadway and African-American spirituals by composers such as Purcell, Handel, Quilter, Finzi, Rodgers and Sondheim. The spirituals are dedicated to pioneering African-American concert and opera artists. The concert also is part of the Schwob School of Music’s Legacy Live Series. AUG. 26 – Visiting Art Scholar Presentation
Marjorie Vecchio, a widely accomplished art curator, will present “Fluid Titles: Interdisciplinary Curating” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at CSU Theatre on the Park in downtown Columbus. Vecchio, director of the Sheppard Fine Art Gallery at University of Nevada-Reno, is serving on the Columbus State art faculty this fall via the CSU Visiting Artists and Scholars Residency Program established by the Mildred Miller Fort Foundation. As an independent curator, Vecchio has exhibited the works of international artists of various media, age and career level. Her CSU lecture is free. AUG. 31 – Classical Guitar Performance
Columbus State University Schwob School of Music faculty guitarist Andrew Zohn will perform works of Tansman, Scarlatti, Piazollo, Barrios and others at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. AUG. 31-SEPT. 1 – Blanchard Leadership Forum
Columbus State University will co-host the annual Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum, themed “Leadership in Uncertain Times,” Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 31-Sept. 1 at the Columbus Convention and Trade Center, 801 Front Ave., Columbus. Speakers will be former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Aflac president and chief operating officer of Aflac U.S. Paul S. Amos II, NBC News correspondent Norah O’Donnell, best-selling author and financial columnist Richard Florida, Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy, and Gen. David Petraeus, who oversees the U.S. Central Command after serving 19 months as the commanding general of the multi-national force in Iraq.

The event is organized by the Leadership Institute at Columbus State’s Cunningham Center for Leadership Development as a partnership between CSU, Synovus, TSYS and Jim Blanchard, the retired CEO and chairman of Synovus. The forum costs $349 per person or $199 for Monday only and $249 for Tuesday only. Columbus State faculty and staff who register for the forum, will be invited to a VIP reception with Powell and other special guests at 6 p.m. Monday. ‘CSU Studio Arts’ Exhibition
Columbus State’s Department of Art is featuring artwork in various media by its faculty and staff in “CSU Studio Arts,” an exhibition through Sept. 5 in the Corn Center for the Visual Arts’ Illges Gallery on CSU’s RiverPark campus. Artists are gallery technician Jon Lumpkin, Judy Barr Dodds , Joe Sanders , Orion Wertz , Rylan Steele , Hannah Israel , Kariann Fuqua , Michael McFalls , Claudia Williams , Yuichiro Komatsu and Elizabeth Roberts McFalls . Gallery admission is free. Fall semester hours are noon-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday. The Corn Center is located at 6 West 10th Street, Columbus .
