AUG. 31 – Backyard Birdfeeding Programs at Oxbow
CSU’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center and Wild Birds Unlimited of Columbus will present “Everything You Want to Know About Attracting Birds to Your Yard …And how to Outwit Squirrels,” on Sunday at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road, Columbus. A presentation designed for families will run from 1-2 p.m., followed by a 3-4 p.m. program for adults.

Oxbow Meadows Director Heidi Hughes, author of ‘The Expert’s Guide to Backyard Birdfeeding,” will show how to establish a bird-friendly backyard and address common backyard challenges: problems with squirrels, other rodents and insects; the wrong birds nesting in a bluebird box; woodpeckers “attacking” the house; birds flying into windows; hummingbirds and orioles ignoring nectar feeders. CSU will suspend classes and all operations on Monday in observance of Labor Day.

SEPT. 2 - Free Forum to Reveal LEGO Robotics League for Local Youth
CSU’s Center for Quality Teaching and Learning will host a First Invitational LEGO Robotics Forum from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Cunningham Center. The event is free and targets parents, teachers, and business and community leaders with information on how they can support a forthcoming Chattahoochee Valley First LEGO League for ages 9-14. The program will be affiliated with First LEGO League International, a 10-year-old organization with about 90,000 worldwide participants. SEPT. 3 - ‘Story Telling’ Art Exhibition Opens
CSU’s Department of Art will present “Story Telling,” an exhibition of drawing, painting, video, photography, installation and mixed media. by CSU faculty and guest artists, from Sept. 3-Oct. 11 in the Corn Center for Visual Arts’ Illges Gallery on CSU’s RiverPark campus in downtown Columbus. Gallery admission is free. Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday. The Corn Center is located at 6 West 10th Street in downtown Columbus. Parking is available in the RiverCenter Parking Garage on Broadway, allowing visitors to enter the Corn Center’s Front Street entrance.

The participating artists are Kip Deeds, a Princeton University lecturer specializing in printmaking, etching and lithography; Nate Larsen, a Chicago-based photographer, whose work has been exhibited internationally; Michael McConnell, a San Francisco-based sculptor and draftsman; Elizabeth McFalls, a CSU assistant professor, who specializes in printmaking; Danielle Mericle, a New York-based photographer and video artist; Mark Orange, a New York-based artist whose multimedia repertoire includes audio, film, photography and digital animation; Garry Pound, a Columbus-based artist; and Orion Wertz, CSU associate professor, who has exhibited paintings, drawings and sculptures in a variety of venues and has produced several comic books. SEPT. 3 - ‘Story Telling’ Lecture by Danielle Mericle
CSU’s Department of Art will host a lecture by Ithaca, NY.-based photographer and video artist Danielle Mericle at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Illges Gallery at the Corn Center for the Visual Arts on CSU’s RiverPark Campus. The program is free and will be followed by a reception. Mericle, who is participating in the Sept. 3-Oct. 11 “Story Telling” exhibition, will cover a pair of her recent projects in her hour-long presentation, including “Western Stories,” a collection of photographs depicting small town history museums that provide a unique view into the ideological framework of American society. SEPT. 5 and 7 - Women’s NCAA Soccer: Cougar Invitational
CSU’s women’s soccer squad will open its home season by hosting the Cougar Invitational with matches on Friday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 7 at the CSU Soccer Complex. The game schedule is:

• Friday: Clayton State vs. Florida Tech, 4 p.m.; Georgia College and State vs. Tusculum, 6 p.m.; and Tampa vs. CSU, 8 p.m.
• Sunday: Tampa vs. Tusculum, 11 a.m. and Florida Tech vs. CSU, 1:30 p.m. Daily admission prices are $5 for adults; $3 for students-kids ; and free for ages 5 and under and CSU students, faculty and staff with ID. For more information, call 706-568-2204 or go to http://www.csucougars.com.

SEPT. 5 - Genealogy Program: ‘What is Family Search Indexing...’
The Muscogee Genealogical Society will present “What is Family Search Indexing and How It Can Be Used – You Can Make a Difference” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6 in the third-floor classroom of CSU’s Schwob Library. The event is free and will focus on a major genealogical digitization and indexing project that is under way at FamilySearch.org, a non-profit service sponsored by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The project reflects on the gathering and preserving of genealogical records worldwide by Mormons for more than 100 years.
