Dec. 12-19 - Spring 2009 Registration Re-Opened
Columbus State University has re-opened the spring 2009 registration process for
graduate students until 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19. The process will open to all students
from Dec. 17-19. Late registration for all students will run Jan. 5-16. For more

DEC. 12 - Student French Horn Recital
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music will present a student French horn recital
by Heather Roland and Elisha Thompson at 7:30 p.m. Friday in RiverCenter’s Legacy

DEC. 13 - Expert to Discuss Endangered Birds at Fort Benning
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will host a program
about endangered birds at Fort Benning, from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday at the center,
3535 South Lumpkin Road. Columbus. Biologist Kristina Witter, will discuss her efforts
as part of a project that monitors and manages Fort Benning’s red-cockaded woodpecker
population. The program is free and oriented toward adults. For more information,

DEC. 13 – Fall Graduation
Columbus State will hold fall 2008 graduation ceremonies at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday
in the Lumpkin Center. Seating for guests will begin at 8:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. respectively.
The early ceremony will involve degree recipients from the College of Arts and Letters,
Turner College of Business and University College. The featured speaker is University
System of Georgia Board of Regents Chair Richard Tucker. Maxine Schiffman, a Schwob
School of Music benefactor, will receive an honorary degree. The afternoon ceremony
will feature state Sen. Seth Harp, R-Midland, speaking to degree recipients from the

DEC. 14 - Oxbow Meadows Workshop: ‘Attracting Winter Birds’
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will present a Second
Sunday series workshop, “Attracting Winter Birds,” on Sunday at the center, 3535 South
Lumpkin Road, Columbus. A 2 p.m. session for all ages will be followed by a 3:30 p.m.
session for adults. The program will debunk myths about birdfeeding and demonstrate
how to attract different species for watching and feeding while minimizing visits
by squirrels, rodents and starlings. The program also will show how to cut cost through
seed and feeder selection and how to protect feeding stations. Admission is $5 adults

DEC. 16 – New Student Orientation
Columbus State will hold an orientation on Tuesday for all new students accepted
to the university for spring 2009. Check-in is 8 a.m. on the second floor of the Davidson
Student Center. The program will begin at 9 a.m. and cover campus resources and organizations
and academic policies and procedures. Fees are $40 per student and $15 per guest.

DEC. 18-20 – NCAA Men’s Basketball: CSU Holiday Classic
The Columbus State men’s basketball squad will compete with two other teams in the
CSU Holiday Classic, Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 18-20, at the Lumpkin Center. The matchups
are Mars Hill vs. Montevallo, 7 p.m. Thursday; CSU vs. Mars Hill, 7 p.m. Friday; and
CSU vs. Montevallo, 4 p.m Saturday. Daily admission prices are $5 for adults; $3 for
students/kids ; and free for ages 5 and under and CSU students, faculty and staff
