DEC. 2 - CSU Wind Ensemble
The CSU Wind Ensemble performs a concert themed “Indestructible Spirit,” 7:30 p.m. Thursday in RiverCenter’s
Legacy Hall. The program, with faculty conductor Jamie Nix and faculty trumpetist
Robert Murray, includes works by Kabalevsky, Walczyk and Puts. The concert also includes
Steven Bryant’s Ecstatic Waters, which incorporates a computerized blend of acoustic

DEC. 4 - Double Reed Day Features Oboe-Bassoon Massed Choir
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music presents Double Reed Day 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 in RiverCenter’s Studio Theatre. The program, follows an
afternoon of master classes and reprises a tradition from 18th-century London as
CSU and guest oboe and bassoon players perform in a massed choir. The program is

DEC. 4 - More Pedal, Less Metal at Oxbow Meadows
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center provides breakfast, hot chocolate, free cycling giveaways and a bike maintenance

DEC. 5 - CSU Chorale and Philharmonic Perform Holiday Program

DEC. 7-17 - Senior Thesis Exhibition
Columbus State’s Department of Art presents a senior thesis exhibition, Ars Gratia Artis by students Taylor Deane and Adam Haney, Dec. 7-17 in the Corn Center for the Visual
Arts’ Bay Gallery on CSU’s RiverPark campus in downtown Columbus. Deane's printmaking
and photography deals with her personal relationship with her grandmother and memory
loss. Haney explores the formal aspects of forms and shapes by using steel and found
metals to create geometric designs. A reception takes place 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec.
11 in the Gallery. Bay Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m Tuesday through Friday and

DEC. 7 - NCAA Men’s Basketball
Columbus State’s men’ s basketball squad hosts Alabama-Huntsville 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 in the Lumpkin Center. Admission

DEC. 9 - Bass Trombonist James Markey
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music presents a performance by James Markey, bass trombonist of the New York Philharmonic, 7:30 p..m. Thursday, Dec. 9 in RiverCenter’s
Legacy Hall. CSU Collaborative Pianist Yien Wang and the CSU Trombone Octet will
join the performance, which completes Markey’s CSU residency that involved recording
with the CSU Trombone Ensemble and mentoring trombone students. Admission is free.

DEC. 10 - Fall Graduation at Civic Center
Columbus State’s fall graduation ceremony takes place 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 in the Columbus Civic Center. The
speaker will be Willis J. Potts Jr., chair of the University System of Georgia Board
of Regents. Potts was appointed to the board in 2006, two years after retiring as
vice president and general manager of Temple-Inland Corp. in Rome, Ga. Seating for
CSU commencement guests and rehearsal-instructions for graduates begins 4:30 p.m.

DEC. 11 - Multiple Programs include ‘Snakes Alive’ at Oxbow Meadows
Columbus State University’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center hosts the following programs on Saturday, Dec. 11:
* A guided wetlands nature walk focused on birding begins 8 a.m. Binoculars and
field guides are provided. The program is free.
* A birdwatching talk, “Finding Rare Birds in Georgia,” by local expert Walt Chambers
is part of a meeting of the Lynn Haven Wildlife Garden Club. The program is free
and open to anyone 16 and older.
* Oxbow Animal Coordinator Jason Clark discusses myths and facts surrounding the
world’s largest snakes in “Snakes Alive” at 1 p.m.. The program involves live pythons,
boas and anacondas. Admission is $3 per person or free for kids 3 and younger. For
