Dec. 1 – Oxbow Holiday Open House
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will have its Holiday Open House from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at the center, 3535 S. Lumpkin Road. From noon-2 p.m., there will be a visit from Santa Claus. Throughout the day, coffee, hot cocoa and sweet treats will be served. Dec. 1 – NCAA Men’s Basketball
CSU’s men’s basketball team plays Voorhees College at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Lumpkin Center. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for non-CSU students and free for ages 5 and under and CSU students, faculty and staff with ID. At halftime there will be a Teddy Bear toss to benefit Cougars for Causes. Anyone bringing in a new teddy bear or stuffed animal will be granted free admission to the game.For more information, call 706-568-2204 or go to http://CSUCougars.com.

Dec. 1 – CSU Alum Dr. Leo Moore to Speak
Dr. Leo Moore, a former CSU graduate, deliver this year’s World AIDS Day presentation World AIDS Day at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 in Stanley Hall, Room 203. The topic of Moore’s lecture is, “31 years of HIV/AIDS: Paying homage to the past, acknowledging the present and championing a future without HIV.”

Dec. 1 – Performance of Santa’s Christmas Tree
The Columbus State University Department of Theatre will perform Santa’s Christmas Tree 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 at the Riverside Theatre Complex. Tickets are $10 adults, $5 children 12 and under, seniors over 60 and active military duty. To purchase your tickets, please call the box office at 706-507-8444.

Dec. 2 – Concerto Competition
CSU’s Schwob School of Music hosts its Concerto Competition from 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. This competition gives CSU’s strongest musical performers from all applied areas a chance to compete and possibly appear with the CSU Philharmonic as soloists. The final round will be judged by some of the world's great musicians, flown into Columbus to evaluate what promises to be a stellar line-up of young artists. Dec. 2 – Trombone Ensembles Perform
CSU’s Schwob School of Music hosts a concert by its Trombone Ensembles at 7:30 Sunday, Dec. 2 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. The CSU Trombone Ensembles perform music that they will present at the 42nd International Trombone Festival to be held at CSU June 26-29, 2013. Dec. 3-6 Alumni Free Access to Student Recreation Center

Dec. 3 – Guitar Studio Recital
CSU’s Schwob School of Music hosts a concert by guitar students of faculty artist Andrew Zohn at 7:30 Monday, Dec. 3 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. The students will perform works for the solo guitar. Free. For more information, call 706-649-7225 or email SchwobMusic@ColumbusState.edu.

This is the last day of classes for the fall semester.

DEC. 8 – Chemical Monitoring Workshop/Certification at Oxbow
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will host a Chemical Monitoring workshop from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at the center, 3535 S. Lumpkin Road. The workshop is designed to teach volunteers about basic stream water chemistry and how to conduct chemical tests using hand-held field equipment. Volunteers are given a field test and written test to assess their ability to collect accurate and precise data. Volunteers who collect data within 10 percent accuracy and pass the written test with a score of 80 percent or better will be qualified as a volunteer for one year. Free. Dec. 10 – CSU Fall Commencement
CSU’s fall commencement will take place at 6:30 Monday, Dec. 10 at the Columbus Civic Center. Ken Bernard, a member of the University System of Georgia’s Board of Regents, will be the speaker.
