JAN. 16-18 - CSU Theatre Staging 'Alexander's Bad Day'
Columbus State University's family theatre production Alexander and the Terrible , Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day runs through the weekend at CSU Theatre on the Park, Mainstage on the RiverPark campus in downtown Columbus. Show times for this family production are 7:30 p,m. Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Ticket prices are $10 for adults; $5 for seniors, children, active military and CSU alumni; and free for CSU faculty-staff and students . JAN. 17 – Oxbow Meadows: Expert to Speak on Bachman's Sparrow
Visiting ornithologist James Tucker will present 'Bachman's Sparrow, Fire and the Longleaf Pine Ecosystem' at 1 p.m. Saturday at Columbus State's Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road, Columbus. Tucker, from the Archbold Biological Station in Central Florida, will discuss the ground-nesting sparrow — a threatened species — and its habitat, which depends on frequent fires to maintain its diversity. Columbus State's Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will host guided 'Bird Walks' from 8-9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road. Visiting ornithologist James Tucker from the Archbold Biological Station in Central Florida, will guide the walks along the center's trails. The cost is $4 per person, and the program is designed for adults and children ages 10 and older. Binoculars and bird field guides will be provided. JAN. 18 – Oxbow Meadows: Expert to Discuss Wildlife Population Genetics
Environmental scientist Teresa Valentine will present 'It's in the Genes: Applying new Technology to Old Bob White,' at 1 p.m. Saturday at Columbus State's Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road, Columbus. Valentine, a recent graduate of the University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, will present an overview of wildlife population genetics and how this technology has provided new information about one of the most studied wild bird species in the South, the Northern Bobwhite. JAN. 20 - Inauguration Viewing
CSU Libraries and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity each are hosting a viewing of the presidential inauguration telecast on Tuesday. The fraternity will host a viewing in University Hall for students, faculty and staff. Seating begins at 10:30 a.m., and the program begins at 11 a.m. Admission is restricted to students, faculty and staff. Tickets are available through the Student Development Office in Davidson 271. JAN. 21-FEB. 21 – Guest Artists' Exhibition
Columbus State's Department of Art will host an exhibition, titled '34.5 N.W.' by faculty artists from Auburn University, from Jan. 21-Feb. 21 in the Corn Center for Visual Arts' Illges Gallery. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday. The Corn Center is located at 6 West 10th St. in downtown Columbus. JAN. 22 - Faculty Research Forum to Feature Geology, Computer Science
CSU Libraries will host a pair of presentations in a faculty research forum from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 in the Schwob Library. Geology Professor David Schwimmer will present 'A New Assemblage of Late Cambrian Trilobites in Northwest Georgia, with Close Relatives in Nevada, Europe and China.' Computer science Assistant Professor Rodrigo Obando will describe a recent virtual reality project by his students in 'A Stroll Down CSU's CSU .' Jan. 22 – Art Exhibition Opening Reception
Columbus State's Department of Art will host an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22 for the exhibition, '34.5 N.W.,' by faculty artists from Auburn University. JAN. 24 – Oxbow Meadows: Researcher to Recount Galapagos Experiences
Dorsey Burger, a University of Michigan population-environment fellow, will present 'In the Footsteps of Darwin: A Naturalist in the Galapagos,' at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at Columbus State's Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road, Columbus. Burger, who worked for the Nature Conservancy in Ecuador, will present a travelogue of his experiences on the Galapagos Islands. Admission is $5.
