MARCH 14 – Oxbow Meadows Programs to Feature Georgia Bats
Heidi Hughes, director of Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center, will present “Georgia Bats: Where, When and How to Watch Them,” in a pair of programs on Saturday, March 14 at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road, Columbus. A 10 a.m. session for adults will be followed by a 1 p.m. program structured for families with children 10 and older. The presentations will cover Georgia bats and tips on how to become a bat watcher. Admission is $5 per person. Seating is limited. Reservations are required. MARCH 14 - NCAA Softball Doubleheader: Lincoln Memorial
Columbus State will host Lincoln Memorial University for an NCAA softball doubleheader on Saturday at Lady Cougar Field. MARCH 16 – Entrepreneurship Speaker Series to Feature Emanuel Jones
Georgia Sen. Emanuel, Jones, owner and president of Legacy Chevrolet in Columbus, will discuss his $25 million acquisition of the former Bill Heard auto dealership at 11 a.m. Monday in the Davidson Student Center auditorium. Hosted by CSU’s Turner College of Business, the program is part of the Ray and Evelyn Crowley Entrepreneurship Speaker Series. Admission is free and open to the public. MARCH 16 - International Film: ‘Paradise Now’
Columbus State’s Center for International Education will screen the 2005 Arabic film Paradise Now at 7 p.m. Monday, in the International House at University Avenue and Clearview Circle. Set on the Israeli-occupied West Bank, this Oscar-nominated drama tells the story of two young men who volunteer as suicide bombers for a radical and militant Palestinian group. MARCH 16 - Faculty Piano Recital

MARCH 17 - National Teacher of the Year Forum for CSU Students
Columbus State students will have an opportunity to meet 2008 National Teacher of the Year Michael Geisen in a forum set for 9:45-10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Cunningham Center’s Blanchard Hall. Geisen, a seventh-grade science teacher at Crook County Middle School in Prineville, Ore., is noted for his philosophy based on “lighting up both sides of his students’ brains” — the left side, with science facts, mathematical analysis and logical thinking; and right side, with songs, art, social connections and big-picture innovation.” CSU’s College of Education is hosting Geisen for two days of activities in Columbus and Fort Benning involving area teachers. MARCH 17-APRIL 18 – Ceramics Exhibition: ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’
Columbus State’s Department of Art will host “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants,” a ceramics exhibition by guest artists Tuesday through April 18 in in the Corn Center for Visual Arts’ Illges Gallery in downtown Columbus. The exhibition theme reflects the mentors that have shaped curator and CSU ceramics professor Matthew Isaacson’s philosophies, ideologies and interests. Participating artists, representing various parts of the United States, are Val Cushing, Chris Gustin, Wayne Higby, John Jessiman, Ji-Wan Joo, Karen Karnes, Jackson Li, Brad Schwieger, Don Reitz, Allan Rosenbaum, Chris Staley, Lydia Thompson and Peter Voulkos. Closing reception is set for 6-7 p.m. April 17 in the gallery. Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 11 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday. The Corn Center is located at 6 West 10th St. in downtown Columbus. MARCH 17-19 – Three-Day Painting Workshop with Bo Bartlett
Internationally respected artist and Columbus native Bo Bartlett, will present 'Holistic Painting,' a three-day painting workshop from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the Rankin Arts Center, 1004 Broadway, Columbus. MARCH 17 — Adult Re-Entry Study Skills Refresher Course Begins
Columbus State’s Adult Re-Entry Program will offer its next study skills refresher course for nontraditional students from 6:30-8:45 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, March 17-May 6 in Howard 107. The course covers skills in reading, writing and mathematics and provides an orientation to CSU policies, procedures, services and opportunities A $125 fee covers text books and admission. MARCH 19 - Readings by Guest Poets
Poets Andrew Zawacki and Donna Stonecipher, from the University of Georgia’s creative writing program, will read from their works at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 19 in the Smith-McCullers House, 1519 Stark Ave., Columbus. The program, presented by CSU’s McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians, is free and open to the public.

Zawacki has authored the poetry collections Anabranch and By Reason of Breakings , and the chapbooks Georgia, co-winner of the “1913 Prize;” Roche limit; and Masquerade, which received the Alice Fay Di Castagnola Award from the Poetry Society of America. Stonecipher has authored The Reservoir, Souvenir de Constantinople and The Cosmopolitan, which won the National Poetry Series and is forthcoming from Coffee House Press. MARCH 19 - Guest Organist James David Christie to Perform
Internationally acclaimed organist James David Christie will perform on the Jordan Organ in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 19. Christie, a professor at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, has made numerous recordings and has served on the juries of the major organ competitions worldwide, including the CSU-hosted Jordan International Competition in 2005. Program: 'Attracting Hummingbirds …' Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will present “Attracting Hummingbirds, Orioles and Nectar Feeders to Your Yard” in a pair of sessions Saturday, March 21 at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road, Columbus. A 10 a.m. program for adults will be followed by a session starting 1 p.m. for adults and children 10 and older. The demonstration will cover ways to lure birds into the yard.
