MARCH 1 — NCAA Tennis
Columbus State’s women’s and men’s tennis teams play Valdosta State at 1 p.m. Saturday,
March 1 at CSU’s Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center.

Columbus State’s baseball squad plays Armstrong Atlantic at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March

Columbus State’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center will celebrate March MadScience throughout the month with events happening from noon-1
p.m. each Saturday at the center, 701 Front Ave. Astro Cam the Space Man will be on
site at noon with live science shows, this Saturday highlighting the subject of energy.
Also this Saturday, kids will have an opportunity to build and take home a science
project. The March 1 hands-on science activity at 1 p.m. will be UV Beads . Admission
is free for children younger than 4, $4 for children ages 4-12, $5 for military and
seniors, $6 for adults; and $3 for CSU students, staff and faculty with ID. For more

center will offer special science-themed reading programs and hands-on activities.

The Peach Belt Conference Basketball Tournament returns to Columbus State’s Lumpkin

the 1989 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and a faculty artist at Johns
Hopkins University’s Peabody Conservatory of Music, will play works by Beethoven,

MARCH 16 — Markey Farewell Recital
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music will host a recital by James Markey at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 16 in RiverCenter’s Legacy
Hall. After many years with the New York Philharmonic, Markey is currently the bass
trombonist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. This recital will wrap up his residency
at CSU. Joining him in recital will be collaborative CSU faculty pianist Yien Wang
and the CSU Trombone Ensemble, under the direction of faculty artist Bradley Palmer.

MARCH 18 — Film, Discussion: Freedom Riders
CSU’s Department of History and Geography will screen the film Freedom Riders at 7
p.m. Tuesday, March 18 at Liberty Theatre, 813 8th Ave. The 2011 Emmy-winning documentary,
from the American Experience series on PBS, focuses on the violence-plagued Freedom
Rider protests of 1961. The film is part of Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights
Struggle, a program made possible through a major grant from the National Endowment
for the Humanities as part of its Bridging Cultures initiative, in partnership with
the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Audience members will have a chance

MARCH 19 — Oliver and Seesholtz Perform
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music hosts a performance by soprano Tiffany Blake Oliver and baritone John Seesholtz at
7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Blake earned her doctorate
in vocal performance with a minor in opera stage direction from the University of
Rochester’s Eastman School of Music, where she also earned her master’s and was awarded
the prestigious Performer’s Certificate. Seesholtz, a lyric baritone, was awarded
the Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from the University of Michigan
School in 2003 and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance with a secondary
emphasis on vocal pedagogy from the University of North Texas in 2009. Blake and Seesholtz

Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music hosts a recital by faculty artists Bradley Palmer and Andrew Miller at 7:30 p.m.
Monday, March 24 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Pianists Yien Wang and Susan Hoskins
will join Palmer and Miller for a faculty tuba-trombone recital. In addition to his
appointment at Columbus State University, Miller plays tuba for the Alabama Symphony
Orchestra. Palmer was host of the 2013 International Trombone Festival and will conduct
the CSU Trombone Ensemble during a trip to Hong Kong for a performance this summer.

MARCH 29 — March MadScience
Columbus State’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center will hold its final March MadScience activities from noon-7 p.m. Saturday, March
29 at the center, 701 Front Ave. Astro Cam the Space Man will be on site at noon with
live science shows, this Saturday highlighting the subject of rocketry and robotics.
Also this Saturday, kids will have an opportunity to build and take home a science
project. There will be three hands-on science activities on March 29: 1 p.m. - straw
rockets , at 2 p.m. - robotic straw hand and 3 p.m. – competition build: “EGG”stronaut
. Admission is free for children younger than 4, $4 for children ages 4-12, $5 for
military and seniors, $6 for adults; and $3 for CSU students, staff and faculty with
ID. The day wraps up with SCI-FI Movie Night at 7 p.m., when a free classic science
