Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music will present a student recital by saxophonist
Stanley Flanders at 4 p.m. Friday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Admission is free.

MAY 2 - CSU Students to Host Make A Wish Foundation Fundraiser
Columbus State’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee will host a Make A Wish Foundation
fundraiser, “Walk for a Wish,” 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the Hardaway High School
track, 2901 College Drive, Columbus. The event will include music, games and snacks.
Participants are asked for a minimum $5 donation to support the foundation, which
serves children with life-threatening diseases. For more information, call 706-562-1588.
MAY 4 - Summer Early Registration and Fee Payment Deadline
The early registration and fee payment deadline for both May and June session summer

MAY 7 - Fifth-Graders to Participate in ‘If I Had a Hammer’ Math Skills Project
Columbus State’s College of Education has invited 25 local fifth-graders to build
a house as part of an innovative math-skills program, “If I had a Hammer,” 10 a.m.-noon
Thursday, May 7 in the Lumpkin Center. The academics-based program guides students
through the entire construction of a house, from working with a budget to installing
a roof. The finished house is about 10 feet square and is complete with windows, door

MAY 7 - Student Art Exhibition Reception on Main Campus
Columbus State’s Department of Art will hold a closing reception for the student
exhibition “Fantastic Four” by Maria Aponte, Mark Cole, Stacy Tsui and Erin King,
12:30-2 p.m. Thursday, May 7 in the University Hall gallery on main campus. For more

MAY 8 - Cunningham Center to Host Maximum Impact Simulcast
Area business executives can access the knowledge of 10 internationally acclaimed
leaders by tuning into the Maximum Impact Simulcast, hosted by Columbus State’s Cunningham
Center 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday, May 8. Broadcast live from Atlanta to about 500 sites
nationwide, speakers will include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, legendary
golfer Jack Nicklaus, Harvard business professor Bill George, Walt Disney parks and
resorts president Al Weiss, advertising agency CEO Linda Kaplan Thaler, Inside the NBA host and sports announcer Ernie Johnson, and best-selling authors Kevin Carroll ,
Mark Sanborn , Liz Murray and John C. Maxell .

Senior Art Exhibition
Columbus State’s senior art exhibition, themed “Pardon our Progress,” is on display
through May 16 in the Corn Center for the Visual Arts’ Illges Gallery, Bay Gallery
and Sculpture Garden. The closing reception is 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 15 in the Corn
Center. Viewing hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Master’s Program Thesis Exhibition
“Birds,” a Master of Science in Education thesis exhibition of paintings by Eric
Todd is on display through May 16 in Gallery Four, Carpenters Building, 4 Ninth Street..

Weekend Bird Walks at Oxbow Meadows
The Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center is hosting weekend “Bird Walks”
from 8-9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road. The program
is free and designed for adults and children ages 10 and older. Binoculars and bird
