MAY 30-31 – CSU Theatre to Stage World Premiere, Honor Playwright
CSU Theatre will stage the premiere of “The Chimes,” an international prize-winning play by Kevin Christopher Snipes, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at CSU’s Studio Theatre in its art-theatre complex.

A drama set in a Massachusetts prep school at the outset of World War II, the play earned the most recent Larry Corse Prize for Playwriting, winning the CSU-hosted international competition that drew about 300 entries from 15 countries. Corse will formally present the prize to Snipes before the Saturday show. Snipes’ plot centers on a group of boys in the school who bond through their love of Shakespeare until the emerging war strains and severs their friendships. General admission is $10 and $8 for senior citizens, military personnel and CSU alumni and free for CSU faculty, staff and students. For tickets or more information, call 706-507-8444.

JUNE 2-5 - Space Camp: ‘So You Want to be an Astronaut’
CSU’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center will open its summer space camp series with “So You Want to be an Astronaut” for ages 8-10 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the center, 701 Front Ave., Columbus. JUNE 2-5 – Early Childhood Enrichment Camp to Open
CSU’s College of Education on Monday will open its month-long “Summer Spectacular 2008” series of weekly activities themed for ages 4-11, Participants will research and write about theme subtopics and bring the overall theme to life by creating displays. CSU early childhood education students and professors will direct the programs at both River Road and North Columbus elementary schools. Parents can sign up their children for $25 per child, per week for any or all sessions, which run 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. For more information, call 706-568-5392.

JUNE 2-6 – CSU Sports Camps
CSU coaches, athletes and others will direct various sports camps for kids this week in four or five-day programs:

• Soccer, ages 7-14, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, CSU Soccer Complex, $200 or $125 for a morning session for ages 4-14 • Tennis, ages 5-up, 9 a.m.-noon Monday through Thursday, Blackmon Tennis Center, $125 • Baseball, ages 5-9, 9 a.m.-noon Monday through Friday, Ragsdale Field, $125 • Girls Basketball Fundamentals, ages 5-up, 9 a.m.-noon Monday through Friday, Lumpkin Center, $125 • Golf, ages 6-18, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday, Bull Creek Golf Course, $225

For ages 5-7, this week’s Activ8 program , “Australia: the Land of Oz,” will involve Aboriginal art and traditional stories, songs, dance,food and more. Registration for this course, at capacity, is closed.

Fees per course range from $79-$95. All Activ8 campers can eat lunches brought from home or purchase a meal during a supervised lunch hour in the Davidson Student Center cafeteria. JUNE 2 - Astronomy Night at Callaway Gardens
CSU’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center will stage an Astronomy Night program starting 9 p.m. at Callaway Gardens’ Overlook Pavilion in Pine Mountain. The program is free and opens a weekly, Monday evening series at Callaway. For more information, call 706-649-1470 or go to http://www.ccssc.org.

JUNE 4 – Summer Orientation
CSU will stage a daylong orientation on Wednesday, June 4 for new students who are enrolled for the June 9-July 23 summer session of classes. Check-in is 8 a.m. in the Davidson Student Center game room with the program starting 8:30 a.m. in the Davidson auditorium. The cost is $40 for students and $15 for family members. Participants have an opportunity to meet other new students, explore campus resources and organizations, learn academic policies and procedures, and distinguish between academic myths and facts. JUNE 8 – Oxbow Meadows’ Second Sunday to Explore Primitive Living
CSU’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will present “12,000 Years in 60 Minutes” as its Second Sunday series program for June 8. The 2-3 p.m. program will involve a demonstration by historian and primitive skills specialist Scott Jones, who will cover fire-making; the of use of animals for food, fiber, tools and hide; and stone stools such as the atlatl , bow and rivercane blowgun.
