NOV. 14 — Closing Day of Nerdacon Gaming-Entertainment Event
The Campus Nerds, a Columbus State student organization, will host the second evening
of its fourth annual gaming event, Nerdacon v4, 10 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Saturday in Davidson
Student Center. Campus Nerds bills its event as the area’s largest sci-fi, fantasy,
anime, manga and popular arts convention. Activities will include panel rooms, vendors,
video game tournaments, martial arts demonstrations, role-playing game demonstrations,
collectible card tournaments, anime-movie viewing rooms, a maid café, guest speakers

NOV. 14 — NCAA Women’s Basketball Exhibition Game
CSU's Lady Cougars kick off their 2009-2010 season with a non-conference exhibition
game, hosting Huntingdon College at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Lumpkin Center.
No admission will be charged for the exhibition game. For more information, visit

NOV. 16 — Schuster Student Success Center Dedication
Join Columbus State University as it celebrates the completion of its newest building,
the Schuster Student Success Center, located at the University Avenue entrance to
main campus, at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Devoted to developing future generations of leaders,
the Schuster Center is named for Schuster Enterprises Chairman Marvin Schuster and
the Schuster family in recognition of a generous gift to the university’s capital
campaign and for dedicated leadership, commitment and support for the university over
the last two decades. The $9 million, 37,700-square foot building will also free up
space in the neighboring Davidson Student Center for more student activities and programs.
NOV. 16 — International Film Screening: Children of Heaven
Columbus State’s Center for International Education will screen the 1997 Iranian
film Children of Heaven 7 p.m. Monday in the Spencer Event Hall at CSU’s International House. The program
is free and part of CSU’s celebration of International Education Week. The film by
Majid Majidi, nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, is about
a brother and sister and their adventures involving a lost pair of shoes. For more

NOV. 18 — Cougar Madness to Kick Off Basketball Season
To kick off the 2009-2010 basketball season, Columbus State University athletics
and student affairs are collaborating to present Cougar Madness, a basketball pep
rally and a night of fun starting 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Lumpkin Center. Players
for the men’s and women’s teams will be introduced; the CSU Dance team will perform;
and faculty and staff members will supplement the action with their own basketball
game and by adding their own members to the university’s cheerleading squad. The event

NOV. 19 — Financial Times’ Richard Waters to Speak on Media Globalization
Financial Times West Coast Bureau Chief Richard Waters will speak on “The Death of Traditional News:
How Technologies are Globalizing the Media” 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 in the CSU
International House’s Spencer Event Hall. The program is free and part of CSU’s celebration
of International Education Week. Waters oversees all FT coverage of the West Coast,
Silicon Valley and global technology industry. For more information, call 706-565-4036.
NOV. 19 — Dinner, Talent Show Fundraiser: ‘A Night Around the World’
Columbus State will host a dinner and talent show fundraiser, “A Night Around the
World,” starting 7 p.m. Thursday in the Spencer Event Hall. The event will feature
student performances and food representing cultures around the world. Tickets, $20
or $10 per student, are limited and can be purchased in advance from CSU’s International
House at Clearview Circle and University Avenue or by calling 706-565-4036. Proceeds
will benefit CSU international programs and Heifer International, a nonprofit organization
dedicated to ending world hunger. The event also is part of CSU’s International Education
Week celebration.
NOV. 19 — Art Sale and Open House
Columbus State’s Department of Art will host a Studio Open House and Student Art
Sale 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 at the Corn Center for the Visual Arts on the
RiverPark Campus at Front Avenue and Dillingham Street. Ceramics, photographs, prints,
paintings, jewelry and more on sale in time for the holidays. The event will include
refreshments and live music from the CSU Jazz Band. Admission is free. For more information,

NOV. 19-22 — CSU Theatre to Stage Cloud Nine
Columbus State Theatre will stage British playwright Caryl Churchill’s comedy Cloud Nine 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 19-21 and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22 at CSU Theatre
on the Park Mainstage in downtown Columbus. Directed by professor Becky Becker, the
play’s first act satirizes the late-19th century British Empire and the repressive
nature of the Victorian family. The second act shows what could happen when the restrictions
of both the genre of comedy and Victorian ideology are loosened in a more permissive
society. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $13 for seniors, children, active military
and CSU alumni and free for CSU faculty-staff and students . For more information,

NOV. 19 — CSU Wind Orchestra
The CSU Wind Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 in RiverCenter’s
Legacy Hall. The program will feature concert band works by composers such as Vincent
Persichetti, Gustav Holst and Warren Benson. Admission is free. For more information,

NOV. 20 — International Food, Entertainment, Fashion Programs
Columbus State will close its International Education Week celebration with a pair
of programs on Friday. An “International Fun and Food Fest” is slated for 11 a.m.-1
p.m. in the International House at the corner of University Avenue and Clearview Circle.
At 6 p.m., an “International Fashion and Dance Review” in the Cougar Lounge on the
Davidson Student Center’s second floor. These programs are free. For more information,

NOV. 20 — CSU Wind Orchestra and Choral Union
The CSU Wind Orchestra and Choral Union will perform 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20 in RiverCenter’s
Legacy Hall as part of the Schwob School of Music’s 13th Annual Conductors Workshop.
Wind Ensemble guest conductors Allan McMurray and Mark Scatterday will join Robert
Rumbelow for a program featuring works by Grainger, Schuman, Laurisden, and the world
premiere of a major composition by Christopher Theofanidis. Vocal soloists for the
Theofanidis piece are soprano Michelle DeBruyn, tenor Andrew Skoog and baritone David

NOV. 21 — NCAA Co-Ed Rifle Competition: Thanksgiving Classic
Columbus State’s NCAA Division I Co-Ed Rifle squad will host and compete in the inaugural
Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday, Nov. 21 at Fort Benning’s Army Marksmanship Unit.

NOV. 21 — Visitation Day for Prospective Students
Columbus State will hold a Visitation Day for prospective students and their parents
starting 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21 at the Lumpkin Center. Participants will tour
the university, view apartment-style dorms, get insight from current CSU students,
speak with professors, attend a social event with CSU student organizations and dine

NOV. 21 — Astronomy Night
Columbus State’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center will host a free Astronomy Night
program Saturday, Nov. 21 at the center, 701 Front Ave. A planetarium presentation
