NOV. 30 – CSU Jazz Band to Perform
The CSU Jazz Band, directed by professor Shirantha Beddage, will perform at 6 p.m. Friday in RiverCenter’s Studio Theatre. The band will perform selections from classic arrangers Bill Holman and Thad Jones, plus re-workings of familiar pieces by Billy Byers, Michael Abene and John Clayton. NOV. 30 – NCAA Men’s Basketball: CSU to Host Carver Bible College
The CSU men’s basketball squad will tip off against Carver Bible College at 6 p.m. Friday in the Lumpkin Center. Admission prices are $5 for adults, $3 for students/kids and free for ages 5 and under and CSU students, faculty and staff with ID. DEC. 1 - World AIDS Day Benefit to Feature Entertainment, Education
CSU will host a World AIDS Day International Benefit Celebration from 2-5 p.m. Saturday in Fine Arts Hall. This family-oriented event will feature live music and dance interspersed with educational video presentations. Performers will include the Hardaway High School Band, The Scoundrels and CSU’s Genesis gospel choir, plus a step performance by Alpha Phi Alpha members and other dances by CSU students.

Sponsors are CSU’s Eta Sigma Gamma health education professional honor society, the Columbus Department of Public Health, Hardaway High School and the Greater Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. There is no admission fee, however donations will be accepted to benefit the health department’s district clinical services program. DEC. 1 – CSU String Orchestra Concert
The CSU String Orchestra will perform at 3 p.m. Saturday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Professor Sergiu Schwartz will conduct the orchestra through works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Bartok and Piazzola. The program is part of RiverCenter’s Winterfest 2007 series. DEC. 1 - Astronomy Night
CSU’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center will stage an Astronomy Night program at 7 p.m. Saturday at the center, 701 Front Ave., Columbus. The program will open with a planetarium presentation, followed by planet viewing and stargazing. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call 706-649-1470.

DEC. 2 – Choral Holiday Concert
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present a holiday concert featuring the CSU Choral Union, orchestra and soloists at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Professor Constantina Tsolainou will conduct the ensembles in a program featuring the Christmas portion of “Handel: Messiah, Part 1.” The program is part of RiverCenter’s Winterfest 2007 series. DEC. 3 - International Film Screening: ‘Earth’
CSU’s Center for International Education will screen the 1998 film “Earth” at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 in the International House at 6 Clearview Circle. The movie is based on the 1947 partitioning of India through the eyes of a daughter in a wealthy Parsi family trying to remain neutral to the rising tensions between Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims. DEC. 3 – Guitar Studio Performance
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will present a Guitar Studio performance at 7:30 p.m. Monday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. DEC. 4 – CSU Philharmonic Orchestra Concert
The CSU Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by George Del Gobbo, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. The program will feature RimskyKorsakov’s “Scheherazade” and CSU faculty cellist André Gaskins joining the orchestra for the first performance of a new cello concerto by American composer Joseph Packales. DEC. 6 - Local History Series to Feature Tuskegee Airmen
CSU’s “Red Clay, White Water and Blues” series on local history continues with a program about The Tuskegee Airmen at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6 in the Columbus Museum. Retired Col. Herbert Carter will share his experience as a Tuskegee airman, and Deanna Mitchell, director of the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site, will talk about the role of the airmen during World War II. On Saturday, Dec. 8, take a tour of the Tuskegee Airmen Museum and other sites in Tuskegee, departing the Columbus library at 9 a.m. and returning at 1 p.m. The programs are free. DEC. 7 – Second Annual Christmas Flavors From Around the World
The CSU Hispanic Association will host its second annual Christmas Flavors from Around the World from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 in the International House at 6 Clearview Circle. Guests can sample cuisine from Mexico, Honduras, Colombia, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Germany, El Salvador and other nations and register for door prizes, including movie tickets and restaurant gift certificates. The event also will feature live performances by the CSU Euphonium Tuba Choir. Proceeds support the Muscogee County School District’s English as a Second Language program.

DEC. 8 – Baseball Camp
CSU Athletics will host a baseball camp for ages 14-18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Ragsdale Field on the CSU campus. A team of coaches headed by CSU baseball head coach Greg Appleton will provide pitching and hitting instruction. The cost is $80 per person. DEC. 8 – NCAA Basketball Doubleheader to Culminate Toy Collection Drive
An NCAA basketball doubleheader in the Lumpkin Center on Saturday, Dec. 8 will feature the CSU women’s squad playing Fort Valley State at 2 p.m., followed by the CSU men and West Florida at 4 p.m. The games also will culminate the CSU Student Athlete Advisory Committee’s Toys for Tots campaign. The committee is collecting toy donations for from drop locations at the Lumpkin Center, Howard Hall, Davidson Student Center, and the Schwob Library. Game admission prices are $5 for adults, $3 for students/kids and free for ages 5 and under and CSU students, faculty and staff with ID.
