Nov. 5 - Astronomy Night
Columbus State’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center stages an Astronomy Night program of stargazing and planet viewing on Saturday, Nov. 5 from the center at 701 Front Ave., Columbus. Nov. 6 – Performance of Bach Cantata 79
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music faculty and students will perform Cantata 79 at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6 at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 4700 Armour Road. Bach’s Cantata 79, also known as Gott der Herr ist Sonn und Schild, will be performed by Schwob faculty Earl Coleman, Kimberly Cone, Kristen Hansen and Richard Williams. Joining them are Schwob students and a special guest, Tennessee Tech University horn professor Jeremy Hansen. The viola concert is part of the LegacyLive! series. Diaz offers an all-Brahms program, including the two Opus 120 sonatas and a transcription of the Opus 78 violin sonata. Nov. 8 – Lecture: Morton A. Harris, Local Attorney
Columbus State’s Center for International Education presents Morton A. Harris from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the Spencer Event Hall of the International House. Harris, a local attorney with Hatcher Stubbs, will give a lecture titled The Growing Gap Between the Rich and the Poor: A Political, Economic and Moral Dilemma – What it means for America. Nov. 8 – Art Exhibit: Double Vision
Columbus State’s Department of Art presents a student video exhibition titled Double Vision from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in the Corn Center for the Visual Arts. The exhibition is composed of videos by students who participated in visiting artist Liz Rodda’s Time and the Moving Image workshop. The workshop introduced students to basic technical, critical and conceptual issues related to working with video in an art context. Admission is free. Nov. 8 – Almeda Trio Concert

As trio-in-residence at The Music Settlement in Cleveland, the ensemble has dedicated itself to performance, education, and outreach. Nov. 11 – Bike Ride With President Mescon
Columbus State’s Cycling Club presents Bike Ride with President Mescon at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at Woodruff Park, starting behind the Corn Center on RiverPark Campus and concluding at the Student Recreation Center on main campus. Participants must be at Woodruff Park at 4:30 p.m. for safety instructions along with the distribution of bikes. Ride On Bikes and The Bike Shop have donated the use of 75 bikes and helmets for the event. President Mescon will lead students, faculty, and staff along the Fall Line Trace, the city’s Rails to Trails project, starting at 5 p.m. Entertainment at the end of the ride will include leisure time in the Student Recreation Center’s pool and lazy river, basketball and volleyball, refreshments and D.J.-provided music. A mini-bus and van will take riders and their bikes back to RiverPark Campus at 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. Admission is free. Nov. 11 – CSU Popular Music Ensemble Concert
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Music presents the CSU Popular Music Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11 in RiverCenter’s Studio Theatre. The ensemble's fall program, chosen in conjunction with the Columbus Museum's upcoming exhibition, Sound and Vision: Monumental Rock 'n Roll Photography, takes one song from each of the artists and groups pictured in the exhibit. The performance includes projections of the photographs from the show, presented in a "History of Rock 'n Roll" format, with information about each artist and song. Admission is free. Nov. 12 – Gusto International Dinner Fundraiser for Schwob School of Music
Columbus State’s Schwob School of Musicpresents Gusto: An Elegant Evening of Fare and Flair, at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the RiverMill Event Centre. Gusto is a five-course dinner exploring the cuisines of Spain, Italy, Germany, Russia and France. While guests partake each course, student musicians present music from the same country as the food being served. The evening’s proceeds fund Schwob School of Music scholarships. Nov. 13 – Second Sunday: Right Tree, Right Spot Tree Planting Event
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center presents Right Tree, Right Spot at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road. Come to Second Sunday at Oxbow Meadows and let the experts from Trees Columbus, Inc. show you what to consider before planting a tree. How fast does it grow? What height does it ultimately reach? Nov. 14 – Film Screening: District 9
Columbus State’s Center for International Education will screen District 9 at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14 in the Spencer Event Hall of the International House. District 9 is a 2009 Academy Award-nominated science fiction thriller about a race of aliens stranded in South Africa and herded into a slum called District 9, offering a grim reminder of that nation’s apartheid era. Featuring themes of xenophobia and social segregation, the film was a critical and box office success despite its relatively unknown cast and modest budget. Admission is free.
