OCT. 10 – Allison Lecture on George Catlin, Painter of the American Indian
CSU’s Department of Art will sponsor a free lecture by Jeffrey W. Allison, the Paul Mellon Collection educator for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Riverside Theatre on CSU’s RiverPark campus. Allison’s topic is George Catlin: Medicine Painter. Catlin was an American painter and printmaker who specialized in depicting the appearances and customs of the Native American peoples of the United States.

OCT. 10 – 10th and Broadway Quartet to Perform
CSU’s Schwob School of Music will host a concert by the 10th and Broadway Quartet at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. Schwob school alumni comprise the award-winning clarinet quartet. Free. For more information, call 706-649-7225or email SchwobMusic@ColumbusState.edu.

OCT. 11 – Cyber Security Awareness Panel Discussion
Columbus State will host a National Cyber Security Awareness Month panel discussion at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 in CSU’s Davidson Student Center auditorium. Scheduled to be on the panel are computer information security officers from Aflac, Synovus, TSYS and CSU. Topics to be discussed are the importance of information security at their businesses, the need within their companies for trained security personnel, career opportunities, duties and responsibilities of an information security employee and expected training required for various information security positions. The event is open to the public.

OCT. 12 – Faculty Lecture Series
Columbus State’s Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians will feature CSU professor Daniel Ross as part of its English Department Faculty Lecture Series at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12 at the McCullers Center, 1519 Stark Ave. Free. OCT. 12 – NCAA Women’s Soccer: CSU vs. North Alabama

OCT. 12 – Alumni Weekend: Friday Night Free for All
Columbus State is hosting its second annual Alumni Weekend Friday and Saturday, Oct. 12-13. The weekend kicks off with the Friday Night Free for All from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13 at The Loft in Uptown Columbus. After gathering with fellow alumni in The Loft’s Green Room, alumni participants and their spouses or partners can stay for the Uptown Columbus Broadway Series Outdoor Concert beginning at 7 p.m. in the median in front of The Loft. OCT. 13 Alumni Weekend: Alumni Recognition Luncheon, Evening on the Top & More
Columbus State’s second annual Alumni Weekend festivities begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 with free admission until noon to CSU’s Coca-Cola Space Science Center at 701 Front Ave. From noon-2 p.m., also at the CCSSC, the Annual Alumni Recognition Luncheon will be held. Columbus College graduates and former students from 1958-1962 will be inducted into the Emeritus Alumni Society also at this event. Admission is $15 per person. Following that luncheon will be the Emeritus Alumni Society Reunion for classes 1958-1962 from 2-3:30 p.m. at the CCSCS. The weekend closes with Evening on the Top at 6:30 p.m. at 940 Front Ave., atop CSU’s parking garage, across from the W.C. Bradley Company. The Grapevine Band will provide music for the picnic-style evening. Those attending may order a CSU picnic meal for two from Aramark, CSU’s food vendor, or bring your own. A cash bar will be provided. Columbus State’s club sport tackle football team will host its counterparts from the University of New Orleans at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium. OCT. 14 – Second Sunday: Rock Stars
Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will hold its Second Sunday event, Rock Stars, from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14. Participants will take a guided virtual tour through Columbus’ geologic past and learn how geologists listen to the stories that rocks tell. Southwest Georgia is now a  geologically quiet region, but the remnants of volcanic eruptions and effects of violent earthquakes lie buried beneath our feet. Rocks in Columbus and surrounding regions tell tales of towering mountains and sandy beaches over a geologic history that spans more than a billion years. Admission is $3. CSU’s Schwob School of Music presents a concert by Rosewind Duo at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 in RiverCenter’s Studio Theatre. The Rosewind Duo has performed in numerous universities across the nation and consists of Scott Herring, percussion, and Clifford Leamon, saxophones. Free. OCT. 14 – Anna Dodd and Nikki Abissi Concert
CSU’s Schwob School of Music presents a concert by guest trombonist Nikki Abissi joined by faculty artists Anna Dodd, horn, and Yien Wang, piano, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. OCT. 16 – Georgia Master Naturalist Certification Program
Columbus State’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center will continue its Georgia Master Naturalist certification program from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the center, 3535 South Lumpkin Road. The certification program session focuses on community ecology, highlighting the importance of honeybees. The eight-week environmental education course costs $250. OCT. 16 – Lecture: Vietnam and Columbus
As part of Columbus State’s year-long Vietnam: Reflections on An Era remembrance, CSU emeritus professor John Lupold will give a lecture at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 16 in CSU’s Schwob Library. The topic of his lecture is The Way We Were: Columbus During the Vietnam War. Light refreshments will be served. Free.

OCT. 16 – Movie Under the Stars: We Were Soldiers
As part of Columbus State’s yearlong Vietnam: Reflections on An Era remembrance, the Mel Gibson film We Were Soldiers will be shown at 7:30 p.m. in CSU’s Rankin Courtyard in Uptown Columbus. The 2002 film, based on the 1992 book, We Were Soldiers Once ... and Young by retired Lt. Gen. Harold G. Moore and war journalist Joseph L. Galloway, is about the first major battle of the American phase of the Vietnam War and the soldiers who fought in it. Parts of the film were shot in Fort Benning and Columbus. Free.

OCT. 17 –Carson McCullers Center: Al Scorch’s Country Soul Ensemble

OCT. 18 – Graduate School Fair
Columbus State will hold an on-campus Graduate School Fair from noon-2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 in the Schuster Student Success Center . The event is for CSU students interested in attending Graduate School at Columbus State. Lunch will be provided. For students who are unable to attend, there will be a community-wide Graduate School Fair from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 in CSU’s Cunningham Center. Refreshments will be served.

OCT. 18-20 – CSU Theatre: Circle Mirror Transformation
Columbus State’s Department of Theatre presents Circle Mirror Transformation at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 18-20 at Riverside Theatre at 6 W. 10th St.This drama follows three characters through a six-week community acting class and celebrates the subtle and surprising power of creativity. Adult themes make this appropriate for ages 14 and older. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and active-duty military tickets and free with CSU I.D. CSU’s Schwob School of Music presents the University Singers in A Choral Adventure – Spanning Time and Place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18 in RiverCenter’s Legacy Hall. The program will include an array of sacred and secular works for solo and ensemble. OCT. 19-20 – Campus Nerds' Haunted House: The Last Show
Columbus State's Campus Nerds organization hosts its popular annual Haunted House from 7-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 19-20 at CSU's Davidson Student Center. This year's production, The Last Show, follows the close of a theatre house, with participants getting to go backstage as the theatre's employees — actors, playwright, prop maker — get ready for the last show. Admission is $5.

OCT. 20 – Discovery Day
Columbus State will offer the first of its three 2012-2013 Discovery Days for prospective students and their families on Saturday, Oct. 20. Due to the overwhelming popularity of Discovery Day , reservations are required and must be made 24 hours in advance. During a Discovery Day, participants will have the opportunity to chat with Admissions and Financial Aid counselors, meet current CSU students while touring campus and attend a social event with student organizations, view classrooms and speak with professors from various areas. Participants will be CSU's guest for lunch, attend a “Student Life at Columbus State” session and learn more about the many housing options and Student Life opportunities.
